People for Bikes has a ride app. I believe it was launched Spring 2019. The following is copied and pasted from the app.

Record, find & share cycling experiences in a community without the competition.

PeopleForBikes, the brightest voice in bicycle advocacy in America, created Ride Spot to reduce barriers to riding and inspire you to ride! Download Ride Spot now to find great routes, find fellow riders, track your rides and share your stories.

See and share the whole story of every great ride.
Riders can easily find safe and fun routes, track their rides, add stories and photos and then share. Find and follow your friends, other riders and great cycling storytellers.

Find the Right Routes, Right Away!
Ride Spot is a source of cycling inspiration. Search curated routes from local affiliates like bike shops, advocacy groups and clubs as well as routes from other local riders. We’ve made it easier than ever to find the right routes for you.

See Local Events and Challenges
Discover upcoming rides and exciting route-based Challenges sponsored by local businesses. After completing a Challenge route, you can claim your award from your favorite shops and brands.

App Features
Track your rides without killing your battery.
Navigate with turn-by-turn directions and/or audio cues.
Real time ride stats: speed, distance, time, elevation.
Easily add power, cadence & heart rate via a Bluetooth connection to your devices.
View rides and routes from other riders, bike shops and other affiliates.
Search local routes, events and challenges to ride.
Profile management: personal profile, equipment locker for bikes & system preferences.

Background Location Notice:
This app uses location services in the background to track users' position during cycling. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

I realize this is an old post, but I'd like to know if anyone is using this.
Thanks in advance.

I did try this app and a few others from 2015 to 2019. Off the top of my head they were Pocket Ranger, Trail Link, Alltrails, US Topo Maps Pro and one other that is no longer offered. My favorite app is the US Topo Maps Pro. It really has everything you could want for planning and executing a ride pretty much anywhere including offroad locations. Great dashboard too. There is a free limited version. It doesn't offer suggestions on where to ride though.

I've pared down on all the apps except the US Topo and Garmin Connect. Mostly I plan a ride and use the Garmin Connect to show me where I went, the terrain I rode and how I did on the ride. I still enjoy looking for places to ride on the internet and mapping it out.

Thanks JR. Looked at US topo, didn't realize there was a free trial available. May well follow your lead on this since we are in the same (often poorly charted) part of the world. I am in central Pennsylvania on the Susquehanna halfway between harrisburg and Williamsport.
