Removal of Gazelle Cabby bottom bracket

Hi Everyone,

I've got a Gazelle Cabby which I would like to put a Bafang mid drive motor on (I already own both).

I'm stumped on how to remove the bottom bracket though. I expected a traditional threaded shell but this looks like some form of propritry press fit. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks, John.

Hi John,

Hope you have disassembled your bottom bracket safely. I ran into the same problem yesterday, and the solution that helped me was to slightly heat the bottom bracket with a heat gun, then to hammer it out from the non-drive side. A mallet didn't work, so it was better to use an 1 lbs hammer through some sort of soft metal spacer to avoid damaging the BB shaft. Don't be afraid of hitting too hard, there is nothing but plastic cap pressed into the hollow BB cylinder. After removing the BB along with the drive side cap, it is easy to knock out the non-drive side cap using e.g. hammer's handle.

What's of more interest to me is how to match 70mm BB length, while the motor is 68mm. Are there some spacers to be used? Also the bafang's drive shaft O.D. is significantly smaller than BB's I.D. I am thinking of printing some spacers to align it within to avoid radial play.

KR, Dimitri
