Red light issues

Hello l am having red light issues with my 2020 Giant Estance 29er. The bike ride control flashes up with a red light. It happens after a couple of minutes.

I have checked the sensor position and have tried resetting the controller.

I have added a 1mm spacer under the battery connector, this has been a fix for others. I had the spacer 3D printed. Unfortunately this isn't the route cause of my issue. I used the giant app and it reported a drive sync issue. I managed to use the app to set the power level to full power, this got me home and the app seems to override the sync controller. This leads me to believe that the problem is with the two button ride controller. All the lights went off on the ride control and the phone with a Bluetooth link allowed me to get me back home. Is there more detailed fault analysis that l can do. I think it is likely to be the controller but it may be an intermittent pedal assist sensor. Don't want to waste money buying unnecessary spares. Any useful help appreciated.

I would advise getting a half-hour of diagnosis from a dealer. Many do not have a clue, and will just want to sell a new bike, some are very good and have diagnostic tools with factory support.

Thank you for your helpful advice, it may come to this. Today l removed the cover from under the pedals. It was packed with mud. I cleaned all the cables and sprayed contact cleaner on the pedal assist sensor connector pins.

I also had a look at the Ride control connector and also sprayed the contacts that with contact cleaner.

I adjusted the battery securing lock to make sure it is fitted firmly with the battery connector.

The red light issue first occurred when l was taking part in a mountain bike skills course and l am wondering if the pedal assist sensor was stressed in some way. The magnet does seem to be quite a distance from the sensor. I am wondering if l should fit a spare spoke magnet in case the original part is no longer working properly?

Will try the bike out again tomorrow, thank you again for your advice

Excellent thank you for your help, l was already thinking that the speed control sensor could be the route cause of the issue.

I have noticed that the spoke magnet is not very close,at all, to the reed switch sensor and definitely over 5mm away. I can't get it any closer than that? I wonder if this is a flaw in the design.

I will have a look if l can temporarily move the reed switch closer to see if it's happier. I could also look for a longer spoke magnet?

An alternative would be to fit the sensor used with later models and retro fit the Jst connectior?

I think when l used the giant app to manually set the power mode that this bypassed the speed sensor input? I did over 5 miles on full power and noticed that all the ride control lights went off. I normally don't go over level 2 on easy runs.

The easy way is to get a second spoke magnet. Remove it from its case, often plastic, and double stack the magnets with crazy glue. Some pickups have a red light that flashes when the magnet passes. The gap should be about 2.5mm. But by double stacking you increase the power, so you can get away with a larger gap. I have to do stuff like this on cargo bikes. Another way is to cut a small rectangular section of 1/2 inch PVC, paint it black and place it between the chainstay and the pickup, cinching it down with zip ties. If it is backed by a small section from an old tube it prevents it from sliding.
