Hi guys I have a problem that just began today my rear hub motor is making a weird noise and feels like it's grinding on something even though it's not whenever I try to give it some power not sure what's causing it, I tested all the cables from the controller and nothing seems to be wrong not sure if anyone could help thanks in advance. Here is a link to the video that shows the noise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsA9...ature=youtu.be Update: took the motor apart and i still don't see any problems not sure if you guys wanna look at these photos and see anything wrong

Don't watch videos. How many miles/hours on the motor? does it have gears or direct drive?
My geared hub motor started making grinding noise about 2 months 500 miles ago, and yesterday it made a huge grunch sound and stopped allowing me to back up. New gears/hub motor time I guess. It has about 5000 miles on it, 2 1/2 years.
You can postpone the inevitable by taking the cover off on the non-wire side and adding some grease to the gears. I did, when the cover came loose about a year ago.
In DD, the only thing to go bad is the bearing. Look at it. If worn out and it is 6801 or 6803 you can get a real one (suitable for car A/C compressors) at the auto supply or MSC direct. Buy the sealed one, bikes get splashed a lot.

I have had the motor for about 2 months now it's a direct drive motor and has maybe 80 miles on it at least the last time I road it it was fine, I put it away for the night, then the next day I take it out and get ready and now it's making a weird noise as if it was hitting/grinding something and it's coming from the motor.

Inexpensive clone motor. Likely magnets or hall sensors. Hall sensors can create crazy sounds.

Too much going on with that video. Next time, use the kickstand to lift the bike wheel off the ground, so you don't have to run alongside the bike to make the video.

So i ended up opening the motor and everything seems normal, no loose magnets and the hall sensor looks normal to me tell me what you guys think

Did anyone solve this? Same motor doing the same thing. I pulled my apart. Magnets are not loose, and show no sign of contact. No shavings or dust in the house. Bearings were a little growly but tight, I replaced them. Problem is louder when bike is on the ground as opposed to lifting the bike up. Makes the exact same noise, and appears to be the same style of hub motor.

Bike is an older Pedego

My Bafang SWX02 started making a lot of growling noise and the problem was the nylon gears were worn. After replacing the gear/clutch assembly all was quiet again. This motor had close to 5000 miles.

I just started my new 1500W motor kit, 0 Km and the grouling noise it makes is quite disturbing; funny thing is that changed the original planetary gear 1000W one, mainly for the lack of power, but I was also looking forward to a totally silent DD motor (I thought). It is nice to know that I don't need to strip it apart, knowing that I'm not alone here and that it might have to do with the way the controller is "creating a rather square sine wave".

The Controller that came with the kit is huge compared to the original one, so it was my thinking that it would behave much better than the cigarette pack size original one, but have seen that some company in Canada makes one that is tiny, the Baserunner from Grin Technologies, that according to their clients it works wonders with our motors.
Still, that noise cannot be good for the motor and I bet it cuts the performance big time, so I will keep an eye on this thread and see if someone comes out with a solution (hope it doesn't cost much or my wife will kill me....)
I started off with a ShengMilo 1000W 48V 17A bike, but as it happens, that was only the start of the story.
I'm discapacitaded and cannot pedal much, just enough to regain some muscle on my left leg....
