Rattling Battery lock

I've had the exact same problem on my new Giant Explore E+1. The lock unit was very loose and rattled a lot when riding. I've fixed it by wedging thin pieces of cardboard into the gap between the lock and the frame. See videos/images below.

Thanks. I was going to try and wrap dental floss around it but couldn't get it in. I was able to get the corner of a business card in and it jammed it nicely. I don't know if it will stay in place. Do you use a new piece every time that you ride?

Try a small rubber band? Nope too hard. Lock tite glue?

Try a strip of thin cardboard as Davo suggested. I cut a piece as in his photos and it works. I don't think you could fit a rubber band in there. Locktite might work but I'm going to take it back to my LBS after the stay home is lifted. I bought the bike right before the order.

Ok. I’ll do that. Please let me know (eventually) what your LBS tells you! Much appreciated.

Bingo! I fixed it!

I suspect Anna and Davo's problem is the same.

You'll need a very small sized Torx screwdriver, sorry I don't know the exact size. Remove the four screws and you will find the black plastic cover. Use a metal tire iron from your bike tool kit to pry off the cover (per the instructions in the repair manual). Then you will see four screws, two that are Phillips head. One of those screws was rattling around loose and the other was also loose. Tightening them up solved the problem. No more noise. I can't say I'm impressed with Giant's assembly.

Anyone else have this problem? I have a Giant, no problem, my wife has a Liv and her lock rattles so much you can hear it a half block away.

My LBS where I recently bought it is closed. Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Thanks

We have just bought Liv Embolden E + 1 and had the same rattle problem. As a temporary measure, I put a folded sheet of kitchen paper over the battery before closing the lid on it, and that cured it. There is too much space in the battery compartment so the battery/case lid rattle. Will find a bit of neoprene to stick inside.

I have a 2019 Giant Explore E3 and a 2020 Giant Explore E4. I had that problem with the key cylinder coming loose on both bikes. Took Both of them back to the dealer who removed the shroud and tightened the bolts inside. Appears to be a common problem with Giant bikes. Still holding tight after 1000 miles.

Now you know how to fix it permanently.

Fixed the rattle today. I do suspect that the screws will rattle loose again at some point but I enjoyed my quiet ride! 🚴‍♀️
PS... I used a Torx 20 and a philips head to complete the task on my Liv.
