Raleigh Array issue....🤔

Hi, I am new to this forum but would welcome some advice please.
I own a pair of old ( 7 or 8 years) Raleigh Array ebikes with front hub motor and slide in battery under the rear rack.
I have a reoccurring issue on one bike as follows:
I slide the battery into its mount and then switch it all on and everything is fine. I then switch the system off and that works fine too.
Then if I attempt to switch it all on again, nothing happens - unless I slide the battery out and back in again, and then it works fine again.
I have 2 identical bikes so have the ability to swap the batteries around so have established the issue is the bike not the battery.
This problem repeats exactly the same each time so I am thinking that it could be electrical rather than a lose connection as it is a regular issue, whether I slide it very gently in or with a bump.
So can anyone offer up any explanation to this frustrating issue please? Alan

I wonder if there’s a (dead) coin battery somewhere in the electronics. Maybe that’s affecting the ability to turn the bike on/off… I don’t know anything about your bike, but a repeatable problem like this sounds like some sort of setting in the controller or in the display (if this bike has one). Does your display (if you have one) have a time of day display? Is it working?

Just guessing. That’s an interesting problem. Good luck diagnosing it. Will like to hear what the problem is when you figure it out.

It turns on the first time you install the battery, Then it can't turn on until you re-install the battery. This is with a full charged battery too? If it's almost discharged or weak. this kind of stuff is more likely,

To be clear, is there a handlebar display or handlebar switch that you are using? Or does the bike turn on using the on/off in the battery? Are there any screens or LED that try to light during the process, or is everything dead?

If there is an LCD display, if you can still find one for a 7 year old ebike, that is probably the problem if it is not the battery. Many of them have a small disconnect connector on the handlebars. If you feel adventurous, you can swap displays to prove that, but I wouldn't. Just jump off and re-insert the battery before you power up.

On our rides, we never turn the bikes off when we take a break.

FYI, the bikes do not have any sort of display, just a couple of buttons and a series of lights to show when it comes on, how much juice in the battery and what power you want to use.
I hadn't thought they may have their own "watch" battery....

Thanks for your thoughts on this matter. The bikes do not have any sort of display, just a couple of buttons and a series of lights to show when it comes on, how much juice in the battery and what power you want to use.

there is currently some stock of these displays available, it sounds like that there is a connection issue between the display and the controller. Usually a dealer could would be able to diagnose if it is a display issue. Accell UK should be able to sell a display to the local dealer.

Thanks. I have a matching pair of bikes so I can prob swap the controllers over to see. 😁

Thanks for the picture. Maybe it’s unlikely given your picture, but definitely have a look. And, yeah, Harry’s advice to try swapping the display is a good one for diagnosis.
