RadRunner battery gauge

I had not noticed before, but there is a series of green and red lights on my battery, which illuminate when the key is on, and the adjacent button is pressed. Is this battery gauge reliable? Is it linear? Is there a voltage remaining level associated with each green and/or red light? I have a 35A controller, and my display shows watts being used, and remaining voltage, but no true battery level, like the original Rad controller had. Is there a reliable way of knowing how much battery is really left? Thanks!

IMHO...no. Your voltage display on the controller is by far the best fuel gauge in my opinion. I don't have the runner but do have the 35A controller and full=54V, empty=40V. The only caveat is that you can be at 44v, make a heavy demand on the battery (uphill, full throttle or PAS5 up a steep hill) and the associated high current draw will drop your voltage below Vco of 40V and the system shuts down. If you then power it back on you will find the battery is not "empty" if you keep your demand low e.g. PAS1 or light throttle and can run on this "reserve" to hopefully get you home.

Any of those bar graphs are notoriously wrong. Best case is they can give you an idea of the state of charge - after watching it for a while. Kinda like a gas quage in a used car. It's not somethng to trust without getting to know it for a few miles......

It's better than nothing, but not really all that useful. With the battery key switched to the ON position, you can check whether you remembered to charge the battery last night. That's what it's good for.
