Both bikes showed some heavy impacts on the container with the sealing tape popped open. Both bikes show punctures or a tearing of the shipping container. I looked at the points of the tearing and I saw a brake disk right next to the cardboard on one bike. Did not see any scratches but any damage won't be seen till the bike is unpacked. The other bike at it's tear had nothing next to the cardboard. Bikes did come standing upright in the truck.
I'm having Velofix put these together on Wednesday so I'll let them unpack and we can document any issues at that point. Packing material looked strong but I have no idea what the bikes went through. Bikes had four transfer points from what I could see. The initial transfer in Washington. A stop in the Denver suburbs. A stop in Kansas City. The delivery to St. Louis and the subsequent transfer to local delivery. Took 5 business days with a 2 day layover in Kansas City where they didn't move on Saturday and Sunday. Loaded in the early am from Kansas City and was delivered to St. Louis at 6 am with me receiving the bikes at 1 pm.

I just spoke to technical support and they said to document with pictures and if any problems occur, call them, provide pictures of the parts if damaged or defective, and Velofix's estimate to make the replacements. Rad will send the parts to me and reimburse any costs from Velofix for coming back to make the repairs.
I'll cross my fingers that the boxes sacrificed themselves and the bikes are both just fine.

Here’s what my first Electric FatTad recumbent looked like. The strapping bands were even broken that held it to the skid. The trucker didn’t want to take it out of the truck. He said that’s the way we got it, just sign this shipment rejection and I’ll be on my way.

The Fedex guy backed his truck into my drive to my garage door. It was a low bodied panel truck and he lifted the back door and slid it out. Probably no more that a foot to the ground. Was very easy to get it down on the ground and he helped me as we pulled the bikes out. I did notice the bike was in the proper orientation in his truck. Not on its side or upside down.

I didn't even take it out. You could see where the cardboard have been rubbing on top of the battery pack mounted on top of the rear rack, and on one corner post of the sling style seat back. Also one pedal had nearly broken out of the box. I couldn't tell if the whole package had fallen and rolled over, or just cargo falling on top of it. All the straps that held the box to the skid had broken, so I was leaning towards the theory the entire thing tumbling over.

Well today was assembly day and my worst fears did not come true. The bikes came out with no damage. The derailer guard on each bike needed to be pulled out a slight bit on each bike. Probably because of pressure on them during shipping, but all else was just great. Batteries were at 75%. The Velofix person answered my questions and road the bikes to make sure everything was good. I took it a couple of blocks from my home. Very happy but understand that this bike is not a lightweight if you deadlift it. I attached the business card of the Velofix franchise in the St. Louis area. She's not shown for my zip code in the suburbs but she does service the metro area. So if you check specific zip codes in the St. Louis area, she may not be shown. You can contact her and she will come to your locale if it's close enough to her main St. Louis territory. She's very experience with Rad Power bikes. Probably more than any local shop in the area. After seeing her work and the truck she does her work in, I can tell you that she will service my Rad in the future.

Generally weight isn't THAT big a deal for most of us. Underway the motor is pretty capable of off setting that weight to the point it's not noticeable, and when lifting, if you're just lifting one end at a time (hopefully) it's not as bad as it sounds. Congrats on the new bike, and best of luck with it!

Bike weight matters if you're trying to get them on and off a rack - even a low hitch-mounted rack. I always removed the batteries first.

Agreed on the weight. When riding it’s not noticible.

Glad to hear the bikes are okay, but I'm not too surprised. The packaging is really pretty good and can withstand a few dents and tears to the cardboard without the bike getting hurt.
I have a RadRover. I pretty much have to lift the front wheel onto the rack and then lift the rear wheel up. It's not bad at all that way, but it is definitely heavy.

Exactly what I was thinking. That, and the fact the City has an awesome built in handle for lifting the back, in the form of one of the sturdiest racks available!

In my case my carrier is one that can be used inside a pickup or in a van. It requires you to remove the front wheel. So I'll be pulling the battery and front wheel off prior to lifting the bike into the van and securing it to the holder. As far as the state of the bike, better to expect the worse case and be pleasantly surprised than the other way around.
I got the battery charged while I went to work for 4 hours. Was totally charged when I got home. Definitely will ride tomorrow on one of the big bike trails locally.

That is what my box looked like when I received it in NC. I was pretty nervous but it was unscathed.
Go ahead and invest in a spoke wrench. It will get a lot of use early on. You want the blue handle wrench.

I live in Barbados (in the Caribbean) and really want a rad city. Only problem is, Rad Power Bikes don't ship internationally so I'd have to use a freight forwarder. Thing is though, Rad's policy is to not accept any liability for damages if a freight forwarder is used. So my fear is that the bike gets to me badly damaged and I'm stuck with a dud. Anyone got any advice for me?
