This is really good news.
I wouldn't go as far to say that the Haibikes weren't worth every penny at $4,000+, since their build quality is really high and the design and engineering of their bikes with the Bosch system is fantastic (motor cut-out on shifts to reduce wear on the cassette, etc), but this price drop reflects the reality that the ebike market is getting a bit more competitive, and it's harder and harder to justify buying an ebike priced above $4k when there are so many good options that can be had for less than $3k (IZIP E3 Dash, Karmic Køben, etc). I think we're going to see bikes like the Haibikes and Focus/Kalkhoff bikes settling into the $2,250 - $3,000 range within two years, and only bikes with way crazier tech and longer range like the Stromer ST2 will be able to sell for above $5k. I think that this is good for both ebike consumers AND ebike manufacturers, as the lower prices might help them to sell in higher volume and reap the efficiencies of scale to lower their manufacturing costs and hence to maintain healthy profit margins.
