Batch Bicycles, a Huffy owned company is releasing a ebike with a Bosch active line Gen 3 mid drive, at a price of $1999.

Hydraulic brakes, 3 frame sizes, only 46.5 lbs, and will be available mid September.

It's class 1, and limited to 20 mph, but nonetheless impressive to see a brand name mid drive on an ebike at prices this low. Too bad it's not in a step through yet.

The mamachari's for around $1000 have very basic components like Nexus 3 speeds, rim brakes, no disc brakes), and very small batteries. They are perfectly fine for the Japan market, but not sure if you can compare them directly to any Bosch or Yamaha mid-drive bikes here in the US. I rode a brand new Yamaha for a few miles in Japan earlier this year, and let's just say that while my 200 lbs didn't break the bike, the motor had to work quite a bit harder than my Giant Explore does and also had nowhere near the power of my wife's Aventon 350.

Huffy ; a brand name with a bad rep . :)
Actually , Trek is releasing a $1500 model with hub drive ; so yes , price points keep dropping .

The mamachari ebikes in Japan are approx $1000.

They're Bridgestone, Panasonic and Yamaha so I'd say they're brand name.

The problem is, they're restricted to 15mph.
Can you buy one?

You can, but they're not officially imported by Yamaha, which inevitably increase the price more than they need to be.

There are a few US importers for JDM ebikes, somebody here on EBR posted the links. There definitely is a demand for affordable name brand ebikes, I don't know why Yamaha didn't bring any.
So another grey market product without support... No thanks!

The Raleigh RetroGlide for 2019 are priced at $1999 with the Bosch Active line motors. We have sold many EBikes at the $2000 price point when manufactures offer them on sell to us dealers. Yamaha powered Haibikes have sold well under $2000 in the past. If you look around you can always find a deal.

I was referring to initial MSRP when new. There are indeed a lot of brands and models that are simply priced too high to begin with, and then later sold at much lower prices when they aren't moving very well. Commonly seen with Raleigh and Haibike, or Specialized, just to name a a few out of many.
