Posting pictures help needed

Hello. I'm going to post a review with a bunch of pics, but the pictures come out huge in the preview. Any help in sizing them?

Tim …

The original photo:
  • Almost all of the photos that I post on the EBR Forum (there are many) are taken on my old iPhone 6 (2014 vintage).
  • Photos are 3264 x 2248 pixels – far too large for posting!
  • The example below (taken this morning) was 1.85 MB in size – far too large for posting but still much smaller than most photos that are posted.
Before posting on the EBR Forum:
  • I rename the photo – usually including the date.
  • Reduce the physical size – usually to 1500 pixels wide (assuming landscape orientation).
  • Save the photo at medium resolution – the date on my computer screen can still be read (top right in photo).
For the example below:
  • Physical size has been reduced from 3264 x 2248 pixel to 1500 x 1258 – about 25% of the original's size!
  • File size has been reduced from 1.85 MB to 179 kB – less than 10% of the original's size!
To post a photo:
  • Place the cursor where you want the photo to appear and press Command + P or Control + P.
  • Click or drag to select the photo.

If you use the "Attach files" tool at the reply box the photo will load in the thumbnail format. If you use the "control P" method like David suggests you can drag and drop the photo full size from your computer. At one point Court asked us to use the thumbnail format when possible to conserve page space.

To resize photos with a Windows computer just right click your photo file then click "edit". The photo will open in the "Paint" program and will be displayed at it's current size. Click the "resize" tool at top margin and change dimensions accordingly by either pixels or percentage. Crop if needed and save.

Thank you gentlemen. I posted a review under the Biomega forum if you're interested. Just went with the thumbnails as I still couldn't insert larger pics. Oh well.

There's still a thumbnail option. :) I see it when I use the "attach files" function to include a photo when I post.

Scroll down? Search for the word "thumbnail"? Or maybe it wasn't there? I'm on a mac, btw...

@BobG described how to resize a photo using Windows (post #4). On the Mac, an easy way to reduce the size of pictures is to email them to yourself and click on the "Medium" size button when composing the message (the button shows up on the upper right). The size options are Actual Size, Large, Medium, and Small. I find that Large is too large, Small too small, and Medium just right (like Goldilocks!).

Or use the Preview app. Select Tools, then Adjust Size.

Hmmmm. This has not worked before for me. I'm not on a Mac. I chose a picture off my camera card after hitting the Attach Files button. It took a bit to download, but it did and went into thumbnail automatically. This has not worked for me in the past. This is a test.

Before, I had to go through and post on Flikr and then attach that.

Bobsiii, You need to reduce your photo sizes before you post multiples. Your first photo on other thread measures 5184x3888. The one above measures 4000x3000. See David's sizing suggestions above. You say you're using a Mac? See Bicyclistas suggestions also.

The question I have is why do some pictures have the file name, size and number of views listed below the picture and others do not?

Here's David's photo reduced another 100% to 750x629 in the thumbnail format...
Bob
You have:
  1. decreased the photo's size on screen (not good – one-quarter the area),
  2. decreased the photo's quality (not good – can you read the time on the computer screen in your photo?),
  3. increased the file size (not good – longer to download and more server space used).
The 'holy grail' of web photos: high quality but small file sizes.

You have:...

David-

Your photo (as with the many others you've posted) looks fantastic and best at its original size. Not suggesting you should have posted smaller. I was just trying to help the OP understand how to reduce size as he requested for his photos that are too large. Your photo was at my fingertips, handy and already in the thread for a size reduction comparison. Apologies, I should have used one of my own photos in the example. I've edited the above post accordingly.
