Performance speed motor update

Has there been one recently? I ask because today I went to the LBS where I bought two Trek Allant 8s this spring to have them set the on/off for the headlamp. For some reason they didn't do this (or even ask) when we bought the bikes this spring. They want to charge $34 for an "update". Pretty cheeky, if you ask me, and it's a Trek owned store, Goodale's in Nashua, NH. Their "ebike person" wasn't in today, so it didn't get done. It's not worth it to me to spend $68 for two bikes just to be able to turn the light on and off. If there were an upgrade to the software, maybe?

Also, I read somewhere that walk assist must be enabled by the LBS too. Is this true? Or is it on by default? Haven't tried to use it, but I'd hate to find that if I need it, it doesn't work.

Thank you all...

Checked with my LBS and received a confirmation there is an update available. Lucky me, I guess, they do not charge for the update. Gotta take my bike in! Thanks for the info!

You bought them new at Goodale's just a few months ago and they want to charge you to perform a Bosch update? That's not cool...

Do you know what the update does? What it fixes etc.? My bikes run fine now, so money for no benefit isn't a good proposition. Interesting that Bosch and the manufacturers don't even notify users of updates. How are we to know?

I bought my first Haibike/Bosch in Nov 2016. I've never had an update installed. You'll be fine without it.

Thank you. Your link gave me the clues I needed to see that my software for my DU, battery and display are all up to date. Looks like there hasn't been an update for the Performance Speed in a long time, since at least last year, since their last reference is MY20. (by my reckoning, they should be in MY 21 by now?).

So $68 to set the light switch for two bikes? No thanks...

It's probably the only SKU they have and would be pretty much the same process as putting newer firmware on your bike: hook the bike up to the Bosch software, change a parameter, then reload the software on the drive unit.

That being said, if you bought there and its a corporate store they should just take care of you.

Is anyone from Bosch listening?
if yes, can you shed light on where/how owners find out about updates and their contents? Had one done last year that was supposed to improve battery life. It would be really great have a view into the revision log.

They should be well aware of this! :
