Performance CX (2018) Seizes

Hi. Has anyone else had/heard of this problem with a Bosch Performance CX (3 month old Trek Powerfly Sport with 688 miles on the clock)?

About 10 miles from home on a level, if a bit muddy, surface, the motor suddenly seized rock solid, absolutely impossible to turn the cranks, although I could still backpedal without problem. A couple of seconds later it freed up with a subtle click/clunk sound. A turn of the pedals and it did exactly the same then freed up again with the same sound. This time it went for a few turns of the crank before doing it yet again. However, this time it didn't free up! No error message on the Intuvia and nothing obvious to cause it.

I started the long walk/scoot home when, after a couple of minutes, it again click/clunked but this time it freed up and didn't recur so I got home without further ado.

But it has shaken my faith in the bike which is now with my LBS awaiting diagnostics and advice from Bosch.

I can't find a similar event mentioned on EBR so am curious to find out if it is a one-off.

Never heard of anything like that before.
At least it's in the best place now, be sure to keep us posted, I'm sure many of us are interested in the outcome.
Good luck, hope it gets sorted quickly.

Has it seen a lot of water or submersion? That's the only thing I've ever seen on motor issues. Look at post #10. https://electricbikereview.com/foru...th-bosch-products-help-solutions-fixes.13098/
No, never submersed, mostly dry riding on tarmac with weekly ventures down well made albeit sometimes muddy, trails.
Interesting reference. Have spoken with a Bosch tech support guy who wasn't surprised and said it is a known fault which, if it is within the guarantee period, would get a new drive unit. The tech guy at my LBS said something similar - they have had a few with this symptom recently.

Issue resolved... Bosch Germany provided a new motor without equivocation. LBS fited it and the whole process took only 10 days. All working fine and the 2 year warranty starts over again. So, for the second time (yes, both CX motors although very different faults - one electrical, one mechanical), hats off to Bosch.
