ravi, what do you think of pedego pricing that new shimano drive fs mtb at $5500 when it is the same bike is being sold by bikes direct for $3500 for what looks to me like better components?

I think all of their bikes are terribly overpriced! ;) but they do have very good support/warranty system.
They market it to older age demography who have the money and not so much time left in their life. So, they don't mind paying.
I am also impressed by their marketing abilities but it will be interesting to see how long they can survive with this kind of pricing.

What you are buying with a Pedego is the dealer network and a great warranty. I think their bikes make a great "first" e-bike.

I also think they make a great bike that is fun to ride. And the bikes seem to be "overbuilt" which is probably very good for the rental market.

I think their Stretch $ is the one that doesn't have really a competition for it at a lower price. I looked at the Yuba bikes. By time time I got what I wanted, Yuba was pricier. There is also the extracycle, but if I recall right, has a lower weight limit too. AND lower seats, so if you have a tall passenger or bigger loads, it gives less space (and I think is longer?) The Pedego Stretch bike fits a VERY nice niche and is in line with price.

Good Point Ravi. Lot's of folks ask why the Pedego bikes are priced where they are, and simply put: the brand has excellent marketing and service, which clearly is important to lots of people. I'm interested to watch the future of the conveyor and the elevate, as these two new systems is a step in a different direction for them. Howard, owner of Pedego Henderson told me: "Change is the price of success." So I'm glad to see Pedego changing it up.

I thought this would be a speed pedelec (28 mph) E-bike at that price point. Perhaps is it because of the drive belt??

According to Pedago's reply to my inquiry :

"The maximum speed is the same as all of our bikes due to the legal limits… 20 mph."

Some other details :

The Conveyor will only be available in one size. The frame is 17” with 27.5” tires. Axle to axle is 46”. It does come in 3 colors…black, blue, and brushed aluminum. It is only pedal assist. A few more specs are…

  • Motor – Brose S 36V 250 Watt
  • 36V 13Ah Battery
  • Alfine 8-Speed Shimano shifter
The 36V 13Ah can go up to 40 miles on a single charge. That does depend on how much you use the battery vs pedaling as well as the terrain you are riding on. I would estimate the minimum range to be around 20 miles.
