Order ebike without test ride?

I live in Portland, OR and there are just a few ebike shops here, but they don't have the best selection of bikes. They have the popular EMotion bikes, but not ones I'm interested in.

I'm liking the EMotion Xenion Cross and the Raleigh Misceo iE.

I wish I could test ride these bikes, but there isn't really any way I could. I don't want to order one and end up not liking it. Any advice?

Youre going to special order a $4000 eBike without road testing it?

Just find out what the refund policy is. And maybe find a similar bike with a Bosch 250w middrive to road test.

It might be worth it to fly down to either San Francisco or Los Angeles for a day. That way, you can test out bikes to your heart's content at Motostrano/EBIKELANE, The New Wheel, The IZIP Store (which carries Raleigh), or Bike Attack Electric. Seattle also has a few shops to choose from, and is only a quick train ride away. Then you'd probably have a better idea of what you'd ultimately want to buy.

Over time, I've purchased four e-bikes without having first seen or tried them.

The only regret was the Haibike, which had terrible build quality. It's was an earlier model and build quality has improved since, so that statement can be ignored.

This biggest concern in my mind, is making sure that you have the right frame size. Sizing varies so much between manufacturer's. Haibike for example are generous with their frame sizing, KTM seem undersize, whilst BH seem pretty much spot on, although the sizing is limited on some of the range.

Next concern is what happens in the event of something going wrong with the bike. You need to be very clear about what support will be given to you, and how the shipping costs for repair will be paid for.

It's a tough choice between the two bikes that you have listed. BH support here in the UK is terrible, but I get the impression that things are far better in the US. It does have a Bosch motor, and from my experience Bosch offer superb support. The down side of the BH is those front forks. I'd not even want to use them for a doorstop. BH always seem to have good styling, and frame appearance, but without exception let themselves down on component spec.

I know very little about the Shimano system, and have no idea of what support is like for the motor.

Both bikes look very nice though, and it's a tough choice between the two. I'm not a fan of the small front sprocket on Bosch bikes, but know the system extremely well, and rate it very highly. I prefer the look of the Raleigh though, especially with the larger front sprocket and rigid front fork set up. I suspect that neither bike will disappoint, but the front forks of the BH would have to go straight into the bin. I haven't looked at the rest of the component spec, but I suspect that the Raleigh will be better.

Edit.. After taking a detailed look, if I did have to choose between the two, it would be the BH, but I'd change the front forks as soon as the bike arrived.

Does anyone have a review they want to share of the Salsa Bucksaw E-rad with 8funhd? I am looking for a alternative to a dirtbike for the majority of use yet sometimes ride the bike in the city as well. I am 6'3" and I want a very comfy ride...not leaning forward all the time on my wrists

The E-Bike store - 809 N. Rosa Parks Way, Portland, Or 97217 503-360-1432
Their website shows the Raleigh Misceo iE that your looking for. Call and see if they have it in stock.
The Portland Ebike Expo will be in Portland on May 20th. It is mentioned that they will have 80 bikes on hand to test.

Very comfy ride = Full suspension, nothing less will do once you've had it. I sold a Stromer to ride my Haibike (dirt) on road too because the suspension is SO nice. ;)

I'm considering joining you in the FS camp. In the meantime, I'm suffering without even a seatpost suspension. :(

I bought a used stealthbomber from seattle ebikes... And l should have flown up to see it in person::::

It alleged to have less than 200 miles... Per the ca.... Which i discovered are easy to reset to zero$$$ lol.

Subject 200mile bomber reality:::
Frame rusted on the inside
Vboxx transmission knackered.... Worn out.
Drive sprocket worn teeth. Way more than 200 miles
Wheels out of true
Nylon on rear hub motor worn... Nuts come loose
Rear swing arm bearings binding up.
Vboxx shifter cables cracked end caps no way to adjust
Even the battery charger is rusty and the charge. Complete light is burned out.

So two points:::
1- dont buy sight unseen,,,, and
2- try to avoid seattle ebike shop....., bs artists over the phone description.

That sucks. With the power of those bikes, you could wear out a sprocket and other parts VERY very quickly.
Some motorcycle buddies get ONE weekend out of an aluminum sprocket with their 2 stroke dirt motorcycles.

I bought my Izip Express sight unseen. In retrospect, probably not the best move, more glandular then cerebral. I am a heavy tall rider and I am setting it up myself, it would have been nice to have someone that actually knew what they were doing to help. I think that I finally have the seat height correct and now I have two different bar raising systems to see where that works best. A 120 mm extension and an adjustable stem. My hands are falling asleep now that I have the seat up. It would have been worth some $ just for the setup.

I second Cam's advice to come down to San Francisco for a quick vacation. There are a lot of great shops with plenty of inventory for you to test ride. If you do come down, shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I'll set you up on a demo of the Karmic Koben. I'm biased, but I think it's more than competitive with the two bikes you're considering, and a much better value too.

I'm also grateful to all our backers who've ordered a bike without a test ride. We won't let you down!

Cheers,
Hong
