I don't think it's really saving battery. Plus it lacks the instant torque of the older controller. Sure, the older controller was more "jumpy" but it had the "hit the gas and watch me go" type feel to it - must be the younger side of me that enjoys that.
And often times riding the trails - I coast along around 12 mph under my own power. PAS 1 cut off at 10mph and after that - it was all under my own power. Otherwise PAS 1 is 75w constant.. after awhile it just feels like I'm in the right gear and evyerhting is easy and smooth. Doesn't feel like I have electric assist at all (which could really just be the overall goal, feeling wise, but it takes away from what's really there)
I have no real complaints of the new controller. It's just not my style and I don't think it so much fits what Im going after (electric to assist me when needed but not holding my hand the whole way through).
