New Allant 8s yesterday

Got a new bike yesterday and am very impressed. I’ve taken a lot of time off so I’m taking it slow to get back into riding shape. I rode an hr when I got it home yesterday and took it on 2 rides today of an hr each. The bike store had a medium Allant 7 and a large 8s and I’m 5’9" which is right at the edge of either sizing chart. I decided the large fit me better and went with it. They also had a Giant Fastroad E+ Ex Pro that I looked at and it was a great bike too but ultimately chose the 8s.

I did a lot of snooping around here and appreciate all the info that is provided here. This is an excellent forum and website. Thanks to all for your contributions and insight.

You're gonna have fun on that.
I bought the stagger about a week back

I have been riding my 9.9s for over a year now. What a well made, beautifully designed bike. Always a pleasure to ride.

May your new bike give you lots of miles and even more smiles.

Thanks. I’m just walking around with a permanent smile. This bike is great.

Walking around it? Get on it and ride! I know the feeling. I seldom, if ever walk away from my Allant without turning around and admiring its good looks.

Awesome! I’ve got to get more accessories for my bike. In need of pouches to carry spare tube and tools. If a flat happens I’m at the mercy of calling my wife to come get me. You’ve got the battery extender. Cool!
I also put on a Baramind City shock absorbing handlebar and a Kinekt Body Float suspension seat post to add quite a bit of compliance front and rear, making easy on these 70 year old bones. I put a Sram AXS X01 wireless derailleur on the bike along with a 10-51 tooth 12 speed Shimano cassette and an Onyx instant engagement, silent microspline hub She is fast smooth, shifts like a dream and is a billy goat of a climber. That is an Abus folding lock with motion sensor tamper alarm at the bottom of the seat tube.

The ride position is great on the Allants. Not upright but not aero either, at a comfortable happy medium.

Using the COBI.Bike app in navigation mode I notice the compass is off north after a while. At first it’s on north starting at home where I know north. Then riding around a bit I notice it’s pointing more east as the north heading. I’m using an iPhone 7 and I’m in my neighborhood so I know where north is. The map is pointing in the right direction. It’s following me along on the streets fine. Strange that the compass gets off kilter. Anyone know if it needs calibrating and how to do it?

This is AWESOME! Set the navigation for the quiet route to get to the park. Took me through a hilly neighborhood that I wouldn’t have done on a regular bike. But this baby tackled it without a problem. I mean it was doable on a regular bike but there was definitely a flatter route to take but would have had more traffic too. Didn’t go deep into the park. Just did an out and back of 15 miles. Plenty of battery left. Used about a 1/4 of charge.

Week 1 - 109 miles. Started light with a couple of 12 - 15 mile rides and have gotten up to 24 miles. Still getting my riding legs under me but I’m getting there. So far it still thrills me just getting it out.

That's awesome.
I did ten miles. Spelled it out cuz it looks longer.
That should change now that I found shoes and pedals.
How's the compass thing?

I updated the hub and now the compass doesn’t work at all and the mileage doesn’t work. I’m hoping it’s because I didn’t reboot it. I did the update and put it on my bike and took off. I set up the Strava app and it uploaded the mileage to it so I’m hoping a reboot will cure it.

Good luck. I have heard others had that too. Mine seems good.
