My stromer ST2 got stolen... ST3 obvious replacement?

Hi all,

I bought last year a Stomer ST2 with a 814 battery , for which I got a 20% discount, so I paid it 5600 swiss francs. Unfortunately someone stole it last month, I'm waiting to see how much I got from the insurance as I'd rather not spend money at the moment on a replacement bike, but it should probably be about 7000chf . Except if the expert think I should get the value of a ST1 as it's maybe the closest model, but I don't think so.

When I bought it last year, I was not sure if I should buy a ST1x or a ST2, but after trying both, getting some advice there, and as there was that "end of model discount", I went with the ST2. I also considered other models but prefered Stomer. Not sure if anything really changed in one year and if they get better alternatives.

I am in a quite annoying situation as my model doesn't exist anymore, because as I said I don't really want to spend money to upgrade to a ST3, but I don't want to get a worse bike than mine either.

What's the most logical replacement to my ST2? From what I saw it seems to be the ST3, but the price difference with a ST2 is really big and I'm not totally sure it's worth it.

I can't really comment on your decision to get an ST3 - Stromer support seems much weaker in the U.S. compared to Switzerland and I've read too many posts from U.S. owners who have had too many poorly resolved issues. So I have never even tried a Stromer.

But regarding insurance I can only suggest that you not immediately accept any first offer of compensation. Very generally speaking, insurance companies put out a low initial compensation offer. It is then up to the insured (you) to further educate them as to why the offer is not adequate or fair compensation. Using the correct mix of education and demonstrating comparable bikes to them, many times they will increase their compensation offer. And then you may not face the same dilemma of having to downgrade your to your bike, or having to spend too much more out of your pocket to get something comparable to your lost bike.

Since you are in EU, you should get a Klever ebike or the M1 Spitzing.

But maybe they will trace your St2 and bring it back ? It has happen many times.

I think is 90-95% chances that you can get it back via the anti theft Omni Gps.

Havr you contacted the HQ to let them know and disable the ebike/trace it ??

If you get any other brand you have to pay xtra for Gps and maybe a monthly fee.
That's the big advantage with the Stromers. The anti theft feature.

- For the insurance, well, it's also my employer so I'm not that worried. But I'm an adviser not working in the claim department, so I'm mostly like any insured client, but I know how to talk to them

- I declared it stolen as saw as I noticed. But the battery was probably empty and there was no network in my garage, so it doesn't help (except if someone turns it on I guess).

- For other bikes option, first ideally I'm not looking at all for something looking a bit like a mountain bike (like what I saw from the 2 suggestions above), I really enjoyed the look of the stromer. What I enjoyed was that it was really easily reaching 45km/h. I use it to commute to work (about 15 kms each way, mostly flat and straight on, sometimes a bit more depending where I go), often in suit, so even if I enjoy sports, my goal is not to have to try hard to get to 45 km/h but to get to that speed with minimal effort (and sweat!). I had a flyer before that one that I enjoyed but most of the time I was at 35-38 kms, I also tried a DIamant zouma (it's about the same as the trek super commuter ) and something else, and I felt the stromer was really more powerful and enjoyable.

What I didn't love with the stromer was a bit the confort but that was better with a seat post , wouldn't have mind it on the front, wasnt willing to pay like 800chf for it however . And that the horn often wasn't working.

I've quite an incentive to go with the same shop (they sell stromer and some other brands, m-way.ch) because I was able to purchase for 99chf a vaucher giving me a 990chf discount. And maybe they'll give me a little discount on accessories as well, looks like they can't do anything on bikes at the moment. I was reasonably happy of them so far, so if I can stay at the same place it's better, but not mandatory either.

The store called me to say they received the ST3 XL for me (only to try it I didn't commit to anything, they just made it come from another store and will easily sell it if I don't buy it) so I might need to take a decision soon. Don't know yet how much I'll receive from the insurance however.

Go for the ST3.
Comes with bigger battery, more powerful motor, better connectivity in EU.
The price difference between ST1 and ST3 will be become irrelevant in a few months.

Thanks. I actually received 7000chf, not that bad. I'll probably try this week a Stromer ST3 that the shop ordered for me in XL (with a 814 battery, not sure I'll pay the premium for the biggest), and could take it.
I wouldn't have mind buying something else , slightly cheaper, but didn't really find any great options so far.

i have ridden a Stromer ST-2 for the last three years and picked up A Specialized Vado6 a couple of years ago. I really like both bikes very much, I decided to sell my ST-2 because it is so difficult to find folks in the USA still carrying the Stromer, which is sad, for sure. The Specilaized Vado 6 was well made and virtually without need of repair though I replaced the cassette and chain after a couple of years. The Vado 6 is no longer made but the Vado 5 sells for $4350 and has all of the equipment that came wit the Vado 6. It is a decent climber and the rides very well on the flats. The battery is smaller than my Stromer, but is about 10 lbs lighter with bigger tires, like on the ST-3.
