Mission Control no longer recording Creo rides?

I have a MY21 Creo SL Expert, and the last 2 rides were not recorded in the Mission Control app.

I've had the bike since March and it has recorded the rides and data with no issues until this week.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill

When you turn on the bike and open Mission Control does the bike show up (I presume it does). You might want to turn both the bike and phone off and then on and try again. I have found on a few occasions, Mission Control loses contact with my Creo and the entire ride is not recorded and I have not figured out why. I have wondered if I might have inadvertently hit the STOP button on my phone when intended to swipe to another application. (I usually simultaneously use Gaia to track rides).

Also, you could sever the connection (unpair) and re-pair the phone-bike.

The bike shows up as found on the phone screen as normal when I power the bike up. I double checked the location settings on the phone.
It's possible the Stop button could have been hit in my jersey pocket, bit strange just the last couple rides.

Appreciate your suggestions, I'll update if I get it sorted out.

BTW; I've got the bike at the shop now, getting the updates on the motor, main battery, and range extender battery. Maybe that will fix the problem.

Thanks,

Bill

Use BLEvo. Tons of information, and the rides are always recorded properly.
There's something about BLEvo that has always made it confusing to use for me. Since some of this dates back to before it official supported my Vado -- when it would frequently scramble my tuning parameters -- maybe I'll look into it again one of these days when I have the time to play with it.

it’s a powerful app no doubt, but has about the worst (and definitely the ugliest) UI of anything i’ve seen in at least 20 years. it’s too bad, i’d love to use it!

Does it have Creo options? I see mention of some of the other Specialized models. I've seen Stefan mention not to tweak the Wheel Specs! Before I toss my $10 away on something other than coffee, o_O I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. Although, at the moment the Creo is at the local bike shop getting its "remote" power buttons installed.

And things obviously are still going swimmingly since the shop told me not to expect it till Sept 28!!!! Well, swimmingly for the busy bike shop, not the bike owner.

it (supposedly) works with the creo. although i bought it (to support the developer) i didn’t actually try to get it working beyond seeing that i really wouldn’t enjoy using it.

  • It works with Creo the same way it works with all current Specialized e-bikes. It works on Vado and Vado SL for me even if the app was originally made for older Levo.
  • Creo specific options can only be operated from Mission Control.
  • Ugly user interface, true. So much of capability that is hard to believe it is available for ten bucks.
  • I had my doubts with the older version of BLEvo. The glitches are gone, and the app is regularly updated, @rochrunner.
User @Nubnub (who, I believe, owns Creo, Vado SL and Levo SL) is a big fan of BLEvo. He told me about the Smart Power option in BLEvo: you set the minimum assistance level, and the leg power threshold above which the motor should provide assistance, flexibly in the 1-99% range. That even beats the Smart Control of MC!

Once you have started the ride with MC, I don't think you can modify ride parameters until you have finished the ride. In BLEvo, you can pause the ride, re-tune the motor, and continue the ride including its recording. More, more, more functions there!

blevo definitely does much more than MC, but in MC you absolutely can change the three tune settings while riding, not just during a ride but literally while moving. the ride is not even paused. of course, always look where you’re going!

@Stefan Mikes
@mschwett

I am still not sure how to @ (AT) someone!!!

I know Stefan is a complete fan. And Mschwett is just a bit less so (g). I keep my phone stashed during rides. I have the TDU (or whatever the little computer is) and a Garmin Edge atop. Tuning or re-tuning during a ride might be nice. The other day I knew it was going to be a hilly 30 mile ride. I was tempted to not bring the Range Extender. I also thought about not hooking it up but in the end, I had them Parallel discharge. That was a mistake. I need to trust the main battery and find out its reasonable limits. I just need to have the Range Extender in the cage. As I've written, I seem to use between 2% and 3% battery on my 15-25 mile rides with 700 to 1200 feet of climbing.

I read about all these powerful folks who do really well with less power or no power but I'm definitely overweight, have a reasonable pannier stuffed and have the heavier Aluminum Creo (I don't really know how much since Specialized does not really show weight comparisons between Creo models). I guess I find most roads with any GRADE need Eco with me pedaling. I wonder if my Creo has more resistance but I know the motor is OFF. I can then do a bit more grade in Eco mode.

I hope the shop does not take a full week to install those remote buttons. But clearly, if I can afford even an Aluminum Credo I can probably spring for Blevo. ;)

Stefan, what is its export process?

Keep those cards and letters coming...

It's TCD (Turbo Control Display).

a Garmin Edge
With a Garmin Edge on the bar, there's no reason to use any smartphone app during the ride.

Stefan, what is its export process?
After you have clicked "End the ride", you are asked to confirm. Then you can give a name to the ride. Finally, BLEvo automatically exports your ride to Strava together with a concise or detailed ride report.

BLEvo pretends to be a Garmin Edge 1000. You can pair your HR monitor with BLEvo (as an ANT+ device, the HR monitor can connect to many devices and apps at the same time). If a HR monitor is paired with BLEvo, Strava will produce even more accurate information in the report.

The ride data files are stored on your smartphone. In case you need the GPX or TCX or FIT data files for the future use, you can transfer them to your PC or Mac. You can also export CSV file for detailed post-ride analysis in Excel.

Recorded ride map is so data rich that you can get any ride detail with all ride and e-bike information for any point of your ride, including the places where you stopped with the stop duration...

Thanks for a great reply. Of course, not that long ago, I opted to Komoot and NOT Stava. Oh, well. Now to continue my hope that the bike shop won't really take till Sept 28th to add the "remote" buttons to the Creo. Maybe I will get an early birthday present (Sept 25) and it will be ready before.

Friends,

Now I have recollected why I hated Mission Control!

I was on a group ride with my friend Anita riding her Como 5 as one of the trip participants. She rode her e-bike with 35/35% assistance; around the 30th kilometre I started wondering whether Anita would return on the battery. To relieve my range anxiety, I connected to her Como from my Mission Control, and set Smart Control. Guess what.

Her daily trip meter on the TCD-w display got reset!

And for exactly that reason I haven't used Mission Control for a very long time now.

@Stefan Mikes that’s a very specific and unusual situation which i doubt many (or any!) will ever reproduce!

my gripes with mission control are

1) doesn’t export motor power
2) display doesn’t use quite the whole screen
3) would like more statistic choices for the dashboard, eg 3 second, 15 second, 60 second averages for stats
4) once every 1,000 miles or so it disconnects unexpectedly.

I have to be honest, there are certain stats I've never really followed in all my years. I recall adding a cadence sensor and never really doing anything with it. Power is way beyond me and distinguishing between MY power and the bike's power is even more beyond me.

Here's Mission Control's FIT export as interpreted by a desktop program. At the bottom it can show five graphs. Speed, Elevation, Heart Rate, Cadence and Power (which power????). As you drag the cursor on the graph, it moves a small icon along the map route.

nice ride :) and gpxSee is a nice tool!

the power displayed there is how much power you were putting out. mission control doesn’t record how much power the bike was adding!

I only recently discovered gpxSee. I was not happy with the FIT standard as it was new to me and I'm use to GPX standard. In addition to Mission Control, I also generally run Gaia and added the Garmin Edge to the Creo. Can you say over recorded!!!!! I originally had the Edge 1000 for a number of years. Recently added the Varia Radar Detector/light but could not hear the warning beeps (my hearing deficit). But then about two weeks ago the Edge stopped taking a charge (or so I thought). Ordered the Edge 1030Plus from REI. Its beeps are audible with the Varia so I liked that part of the upgrade.

But with all this paraphernalia (wow, spelled that without assistance) the bike gets heavier and heavier!
