No ebike is perfect, this is a thread dedicated to sharing known issues or problems with electric bikes from Michael Blast as well as any help and solutions you know of. Sometimes that means a DIY fix and other times it can mean a recall, software update or part replacement by a dealer.

Hey, that's wonderful to hear! I just got to review the Greaser and I'll be posting that review soon. It was a lot of fun to ride... and such a stylish bike!
 
Definitely looking forward to the review. The Greaser is not the most practical ebike, but oh it's a conversation piece. It draws attention wherever it goes. The vintage look is such an eye catcher. Take a Greaser to a classic car or motorcycle show, and prepare to meet a whole lot of people. It's a magnet. For those that appreciate the board-track era of motorcycle racing, this is the ebike to have.

Hi there everyone! Great to find this forum. My name is Paul and I've had the pleasure of using the Greaser over the last year - a real delight and of course, a real conversation piece. With that, I do have a couple of issues which I'm looking for advice about, if anyone can help -

1. The front headlamp - unfortunately provides little real light for riding in the dark. The bulb in the upper half is upward facing instead of forward-facing, and the regular-looking small bulb in the lower half doesn't work at all and I've understood that it's only there for aesthetics. Any ideas for a solution?

2. The kick stand - where it's located and its length mean that the bike is quite unstable in the standing position and easily falls over. Any thoughts from anyone how to rectify that?

Hi , I'm also a Greaser owner (500W,48v,14.5A). I got mine 4 years ago and it's still going strong after many rides. The only problem I had was the battery fell from the mounting plate when plastic brackets broke. Because it's invisible and I don't need to remove it, my battery is now fixed with tie wraps, As you can see, I personalized mine a lot. Among other things, I changed the riding position by moving back the seat to get better knee clearance and I replaced the handlebar to get a more upright position. I installed full fenders, leather accessories and different things. The new look is more like of the early road motorcycle instead of a board track racer look. Because I also love board track racers, I built an electric bike board track racer recreation. The frame come from a 1940 bicycle, the fake all aluminum motor cylinders are 2 lipo batteries, front hub motor, coaster brake ...

I modified the kick stand with an aluminum tube over it. I used the front light once and I was pleased with the result.

Hi everyone,

I have owned a second hand greaser for about a month now, using it as my almost-every day ride. I did modify a bit to cater for my needs (long distance rides and weekly shopping rides). As for issues, there aren´t that many. I think it is an eminently practical bike, provided that the build quality lasts (we'll see about that), at 28kg not much heavier than a regular mech bike. The biggest problem in terms of parcticability are the fat 3" tires, as they are impossible to squeeze into a bike stand, particularly on trains. Then the kick stand comes loose easily in the mounting underneath the frame, but that can be rectified with an allen tool. And I noticed that the rear fender is all but useless when driving in wet conditions, as the tires throw dirt and droplets right over the fender onto my ass. Talk about a wet butt after such a ride. So, instead of dishing out 80 quid for an overpriced elongated version, I re-mounted the original quarter-fender, but with the lower screw hole mounted on the top screw. Naturall, this left the fender only supported at one end and completely wobbly, so I got myself a 3 quid metal bar second hand and fitted that in the top screw hole of the fender while supporting it on the built-in srew holes on the rear wheel support. Check the pix. Also, I got a MTB style carrier rack that also helped to stabilize the saddle support, which tends to slide down easily. I will be mounting saddle bags soon, motorcycle style.

Hi guys, I have a Michael Blast outsider ebike, I bought it in September 2020 and I am still enjoying using it. The only thing is that I had to change the motor, as a very bad noise was coming from it. I bought it with a conversion, battery 48v 14.5ah, but with 36v 350W motor. But now I decided to upgrade the motor buying the 48v 500W one, thinking that it was going to be faster, or at least at the same speed (with 36v motor, speed using throttle was 45km/h), but unfortunately the max speed with this more powerful motor is only 35km/h.
I changed the speed limit to 50km, wheel size as well from the speedometer, but nothing has changed.. any thoughts on how to increase speed? Motor is bafang mg06 48v 500Wattt....thanks
 
The top throttle speed for my bike with a 48 volt motor and battery is 35km. Did you use the 36 volt motor with a 48 v battery ??

Hi, yes, I bought it from Michael Blast like that, 48v battery and 36v 350W motor and it was great, 45km/h using the throttle, 35km with pedal assist, but now with 48v 500Wattt motor the max speed I can get is 35km, pedal assist and throttle have same speed....what a shame!
 
I think you have your explanation, your motor was running way too fast and it burned.
It actually didn't burn, gears teeth broke, but motor is still speeding at 45km...at same time I bought the new motor, I decided to buy new gears but the noise is still there for some reason.....but the motor didn't lose power at all, in a theory I could still use it, but I don't like the noise that it makes. Motor itself without gears doesn't make any strange noise....Consider that I use the bike 5 days a week, doing 24 miles a day, therefore motor did lods of miles in over 15 months.
Does exist a device (like for mid drive motors) for hub rear motors that increase speed?
 
It's exactly what happen when we increase the voltage, motor is running faster. The speed gain you had was proportional to your voltage increase. You certainly also exceeded the maximum 350W by a huge margin. You motor was not designed for that effort.

I'm sure you are right, but I bought it like this, from the manufacturer, so I don't understand why they would sell something that is not right 🤔
 
I love my Outsider although I am a little too short for it. I wear my platform boots and try not to stop on hills.

This is the third or fourth time it happened so I'm not even taking to the store on warranty because they don't seem to know what they're doing. Another thing: after I turn it on a grey light starts blinking under the stoplight. I can see this problem is about a sensor / switch which powers on the engine after sensing that the pedals are turning but I don't know how to correct it. If you guys have any idea please help. Many thanks.

Have you checked that the battery under the hood has not dislodged from its cradle? If this is your issue, it was mine as well. I found that downward slopes and bumps would knock the battery out of its cradle and become unplugged. You have to go under the hood and place it back in. It should start for you.

I don't know why this happens with the Outsider battery position and not on rides such as the Super 73. I don't know if other bikes with the battery in the same position does this. However, if I were to choose having this issue on the downward slope or an upward slope, I would rather it happen on the down as you have breaks. I think it would be dangerous beyond belief to have a dislodge of the battery happen while riding upwards.

I hope that the issue is a simple fix for you. What I did was velcro a strap length wise across the battery to keep it more firmly in place. The included cloth strap across the width of the battery is not enough to keep it in place. Dollar store fix.
