Kiox fails to BT pair on Smart System

I work at an R&M dealership - none of the Smart system bikes ship with updated printed manuals, because, as mentioned, they haven't been printed yet.
Understandable, except you would think they could manage a 1 page insert directing Smart System owners to the correct URLs...

Thanks mate!!

This is a bit frustrating - not buying the “base model” and yet getting out of date manuals.

Also frustrating that this smart system doesn’t have the active brake light system (& going to cost me another $500 to retrofit it!)
I would not worry about it.

Interesting. When was the new smartsystem announced? Just a few weeks ago?

Another interesting limitation to the “Smart” system is that it can only be paired to one account.

I tried to add my wife’s new bike to the Flow app in my account and it errored, saying it was already registered to a different user.

The instruction was to unregister the bike from my wife’s account to allow me to register it.

This inability to have multiple users of a smart bike seems short sighted - I could conceivably want to ride the bike (& use the motor lock feature) but seemingly can not.

I could try signing into the Flow app with my wife’s account and seeing if I can BT pair to my phone as well, but sharing passwords / accounts seems bad as well from a security PoV.

I’m genuinely surprised about this limitation.

So I added my wife’s account to my Flow app and it paired / registered with my phone immediately - BUT, my wife’s phone could no longer unlock it.

So, looks like the smart system can only be paired to a single phone/account at any one time.

I’ve opened a support ticket with Bosch to ask for guidance on how multiple riders can unlock a smart system bike.

Agree completely that family members often share bikes and allowing it to work with only one account seems like an artificial and unhelpful limitation. Hopefully this is not a product of their of their database schema, if it is a fix might be nontrivial.

Here is the feedback from Bosch via official helpdesk ticket:

Thank you for contacting Bosch eBike Customer Service New Zealand

I am really sorry, but the Lock feature can only be paired with one phone at a time. I understand how inconvenient that this must be for you, but at the moment it is only one phone.

I'll ask our IT department (in Germany) if we have anything coming or are working on anything for the future and will reply to this email chain once I have an answer. - hopefully in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Perhaps unsurprising really.

I think this actually creates a security risk - given multiple family members would like to ride this bike I suspect the engine/app lock will be turned OFF now, and highly likely my wife does not remember to manually turn it back on when she is out and about, relying only on physical security lock measures.

In a perfect world, the bike engine should be disabled anytime it is powered off, and can be unlocked by any smartphone of authorised users (e.g. family members, trusted friend etc).

Now, I'd imagine, we lose the benefits of engine lock as it's too restrictive/limiting to only one user.

Cheers
Sam
