Hi ebike forum folks. Me and my Lectric Xpedition 2.0 long range cargo bike are new here. I got the bike to be my commuter and plan to refine and adapt it this year in preparation for leaving my job and going on an overlanding adventure some time next year (documenting it all on my YouTube channel of course).
I’m a data center electrician, so comfortable working on and modifying the electronics of the bike. I’m debating attempting to build a solar canopy as much for shade while touring in Latin America as for extending range by charging a small power station that would be used to top up my bike batteries whenever I stop to eat. The hope being that I could turn the Xpedition’s theoretical 170 mile range into a real world heavily loaded 150 to 170 miles and also have a way to get unstuck if I ever find myself stranded and camping in a place with no place to charge overnight.
I’m all ears about gear suggestions, especially a good saddle for older guys and the accompanying prostate issues.
This plan I have, is probably ill advised. My wife certainly thinks so. I’ve had a pretty adventurous life, working in Antarctica, Greenland, Afghanistan, Poland, Alaska, living in Ecuador when I’m not off somewhere on a work contract, and generally jumping into crazy plans and adventures with no regard for the risk or likelihood of disaster. My plan, to overland on an ebike through Latin America is likely to be my last great adventure, as my many health issues are being to catch up with me, so my thoughts and approach to this are framed by that feeling.
So yeah, nice to be a part of this community, and looking forward to whatever feedback and/or ridicule you’all got.
