No, not a new bike, but the smoke from the Northern California fires, now it's made it's way into SoCal. I was going for a ride today and when I looked at the air quality I thought better of it. The AQI is 156. Yuk!

I thought you were going to write that the Apocalypse is here. Which I think it is. I think we are already over the cliff and yet people are just going on as though everything is normal.

For much of the country it is sort of normal. Sort of. I know it is not. A couple weeks ago the mid Atlantic and northeastern states were dealing with very poor and dangerous air quality from the Oregon fires. In the countryside you could see and smell the smoke in the rolling hills. Reminded me of the historic year without a summer. Obviously not nearly as bad as that.

So many in media and social media use the issue as a club to beat up their political enemies. There are charismatic and knowledgeable scientists that speak to the issues, but they aren't the ones the media uses to inform the public. I really don't understand the logic of insulting a sizable portion of the population and then complain when they aren't on board with efforts to make positive change. The acrimony between all sides just makes me want to tune it all out. I know media has always had preferences, one way or another, but now the preferences are for something and against people on the other side. Very sad and doesn't inspire and rally people to a common cause.

I've given up on cars. Even electric ones are too much weight driving around. I rent a car for a vacation every 18-24 months. I tried Greyhound vacations, but I miss a lot of stuff because public transportation is so bad. I walked 16 miles RT to see Colorado National Monument one vacation. Tour bus wasn't running for Thanksgiving weekend, no used bicycles in Goodwill store - no Goodwill in Grand Junction.
My electric use has my house as "one of the most efficient in your neighborhood" according to Duke Energy.
There are 2 or 4 people on here that live as energy efficiently as I do.
Since 7/14 I've been riding 70 miles a week without electricity on the bike. Burnt the ASI controller pin off in the rain, destroying Mac12t motor harness too. I have bought some parts but nothing matches up. I'm down to 158 lb, lower than since 1978.

I always rank high on those. I live in a modest size house out in the country. The problem with those rankings is if you live in an area with a lot of grand 5000+ square foot houses, a home can still rank high and efficient. Its relative to your community.

This is what I did many years ago.....and I live a LOT happier/fulfilled life because of it.

Try it you’ll like......LOVE.......it !
I've been doing that for awhile now. Cancelled cable going on 2 years now. Gave up op-eds long ago. No bookface, only real tweets from birds. Still read real news and real science. Unfortunately you can't escape all the craziness. I can't stand to see the division. We have so much more in common than differences.

There are very rich and powerful people spending lots of money to stir that craziness up, just to shift blame from their own past decisions. And their disinfo isn't working as well as it used to. So, conflicts replace disinformation.

My husband is an electrical contractor. He takes saving electricity as an affront to his livelihood. 😅

He is not alone. Many electrical engineers are much worse offenders. Think about the phantom or vampire loads of every device with a remote control... part of the device has to be 'ON' to react to the remote control. Many draw up to half power 24/7 just for that ...
