Interesting ride thread.

I hope that you don't mind Court, but I figured that it would be good to have a collective thread, where forum members can show their interesting rides as they happen. :)

And to start the ball rolling, here is a ride that I completed today. The ride started at a small village called Alciston, and from there I ventured along the base line of a section of the Soth Downs, then climbed up the hills to cycle along and down to a village called Alfriston. I then cycled back up again using a different route and just spent a bit of time exploring an area that I'm not familiar with. Sadly the view wasn't as clear as it could had been, but all in all, it was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday. I also made the obligatory food stop along the way, and had some of the best sausage rolls that I have ever tasted. The overall distance was 25miles, and the only negative thing about the ride was that I hadn't locked the battery in place and it came off the bike, and bounced onto the tarmac road at approx. 20mph. :(

Here is the area for ride. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...2!3m1!1s0x47df7b213604cbc3:0x83c5da3b0ec2d5af

These three show the overall route, along with the steepest climb and steepest descent.

Looks fantastic Eddie..!!
eBiking on these kinds of terrain = pure bliss (if you don't get a flat) :)

I must admit that I think that I have found a new home to ride on. :)

There was one section that I gave up on after just a short distance. It was a narrow wet track covered with slippery roots. A friend of mine had started to ride the same section approx. six months ago on his petrol engined dirt bike, and came off badly, fracturing three ribs and puncturing a lung. He was airlifted to hospital, and is now thankfully out and about again.

I was on my own, and couldn't see the sense of putting myself into any kind of danger. Having said that, even if I had been with others, I still wouldn't have tackled it.

Ouch... We were just talking about that in another thread as one of the risks of the Easy Motion integrated battery design. I'm glad that at least it didn't explode or catch fire on you! Sounds like you might have gotten a few scratches though.

Neat idea for a thread Eddie! You live in a beautiful place and seem to be so active with your bike, it's neat to see the updates :)

and another taste of my local riding. I often ride out to Woodman's Point when I only have time for about an hour's riding. It is often a battle heading out into the headwinds but the ride home is fun ... I haven't included the less glamourous part of riding back into the City.

Court this is recorded using the GoPro Hero 3 mounted on the handlebars with a K-Edge mount.

Not the most successful of rides today. I ventured back up onto the South Downs Way again, but my heart wasn't in it as I spent last night being sick after eating something, and was struck again whilst out on the ride. I also took a lot of wrong turnings and did a lot of back tracking. I guess that 16miles is still better than none though. :)

I love the last shot, with your bike parked in the middle of those beautiful green rolling hills. Would you mind if I used that on the homepage of EBR sometime?

Thanks Court.

If you would like me to forward a full size image just say. :)

Frustratingly the views still haven't been that clear yet.

As I wasn't feeling that great, photos weren't sadly at the top of my list today. :(

The bike looks great Eddie! Tricked out with all the goodies. Hope your feelin better soon

I had another enjoyable, if not short ride today back up on the South Downs again. :)

Check out just how steep the section was that I have highlighted below. This was quite tough riding today, with several nasty gradients, and many rutted tracks. As usual the BH performed faultlessly.

Another lovely view.

These trails don't look as rutted or narrow as they actually are.

I rather like this photo, but if anyone is able to edit this so that both the bike and grass are a completely black silhouette against the blue sky, I'd appreciate it. :)

Here we go again. :)

I took advantage of the break in the rain this evening when the sun finally came out, and put in a 16mile ride where perhaps I shouldn't have! ;)
Annoyingly the first half of the ride was spoilt with error 13 constantly popping up. I had thought that it was the battery, but after repeated removal and refitting I then started at the console end, and once again that was where my problem was. I have no idea how the console works loose given that it is screwed down, but it does.
Anyway back onto the ride. I overcooked it on one track which had become washed out, and I think that I have now slightly buckled the front wheel, when the front dived into a massive hole. My first thought was s**t I'm on my own. Thankfully my speed got me through it, so no harm done to me. For safety reasons, I'm beginning to think that I need to find someone to ride with.
After the above I then ventured onto somewhere that doesn't matter, but this proved to be more of a challenge than I had first thought that it was going to be.
I came across a swollen stream that I had no choice but to carry the bike across. So there I am up to my knees in cold water carrying the bike. Thankfully my feet and legs were only cold for a few moments. Not knowing where I was, I then ended up in some very marshy ground. To say that this ride became tough is an understatement. I still enjoyed every second of it, and can't wait to get back out in the mud again exploring.

It's good to be back in the mud again.

And looking just as it should again.

good job Eddie. It's funny how things don't always go the way we think they should. This morning I thought to myself to test what my range is in ECO mode. I figured I would take a more or less even trail with some UPS and downs. 6miles into the trip I hit large pocets of ice and snow. Then the paved trail ended and I'm trotting through this muddy and snowy trail in the woods for 2 miles. At 13 miles I turned towards a few towns o and all of a sudden I'm hitting these large hills that I never really noticed when I drove them in a car. I was still having a great time, made it home after 31 miles and 30% on my battery left. Next time I'll just try to see how many 4 mile loops I can make around the bay. :)

You guys are awesome! I am hoping and praying for some actual NICE weather for you die hards to ride in, you've earned it!

That is an amazing range for eco mode. That makes me wonder even more about my bike settings not working as they should.

I'm glad that we don't have ice and snow. Thankfully we haven't had any at all this winter. :) Having said that, the rain more than made up for it.

Court you are right about the varied terrain. Sadly though in reality it is quite restrictive where I am compared to other parts of the country. The Ashdown Forest is less than two minutes away from me, but more than annoyingly cyclists aren't allowed on it. Walkers and horses are though.

Of course my self and countless others would never dream of riding on it. ;)
