What were the deciding factors? My local shop said he thought the ST1 offered more bang for the buck. Thanks!
I rode a Stromer ST-1 Limited Edition for 300 miles on a 60 day trial period, then decided to upgrade to the ST-2. While it was fresh in my mind at the time I upgraded, I tried to make a list comparing the two. To wit:
STROMER ST - 2 compared to ST - 1 Platinum
1) USB outlet, and daytime driving light in head tube
2) upgraded Magura disc brake set
3) upgraded Shimano drive train with 20 speeds and 34 tooth rear cog (vs 30 speed triple
with 32 tooth rear cog and lesser Shimano shift components)
4) handier power switch, lighted with upgraded headlight/taillight and light switch built in
5) control panel integrated into top tube with touch screen menu driven cycling parameters
6) ability to “lock” bike thru this panel with corresponding GPS surveillance for locating the bike,
including text alert via Omni app for Stromer
7) Stromer Omni app for phone, that allows for adjusting the cycling parameters from phone as well
as lock or unlock the bike
8) thru axel on rear removable with 6 mm hex key (as opposed to bolted on axel on ST-1)
9) easier removal of rear wheel (no need to cut zip ties and replace if needing to pull the rear wheel)
10) syno-drive motor (500W, 4 lbs. lighter and nearly 20% more torque)
11) battery is much larger and more powerful 48V, 814WH with extended range up to 90 miles)
12) charger has magnetic energy bus coupling (so extra adapter for ST-1 type charger is eliminated)
13 battery is easier to put back in down tube (no rails)
14 battery compartment access is improved (turn key and door pops open vs having to push an
additional button after turning the key on the ST -1). In addition battery has folding handle for
easier handling when removing or reinstalling the battery)
15) comes with “city” kit (fenders and lights) ($475 additional on ST - 1 Platinum)
16) 5 levels of regen vs 2 levels on ST-1. Provides a larger variety of regen modes for using the
motor to seriously brake the bike on downhills; easily switched between using the plus and minus
buttons on the controller
price difference $2516 with city kit added to ST -1
