How many Km or miles on your chain?

Wondering how many Miles or Km do you have on your bike drive line...chain, cassette and chain ring?

I have a Surface 604 Shred, I ride 80% road some mellow single track...I lubricate the chain every 2nd ride and clean it regularly. Everything still shifts like new with 6,000Km (4200 miles) on the original equipment.

I’ve read that some people like to replace there chain twice before having to replace the cassette and chainring to safe on costs.

Question: Should I replace my chain with this kind of Km on the drive line or just keep riding tell something gives?

I bought a park gauge in March at 2 1/2 years ~5000 miles. Guess what, it was worn out. I lubricate every 2 weeks.
Stock from yuba KMC 8 speed chain. No mid drive, I use a front hub motor. I have 6 months on the new chain, about 1500 miles. Park gauge was stolen 9/14. I bought the park gauge at modernbike.com KMC bright chain, because I leave my bike out in the rain frequently @ my volunteer job or shopping.

I got the longest on this last chain 3000 miles on my mid drive. I lube once a week when it is not raining thats about 100 miles. or twice a week when I go over 100 I use rock and roll lube it tends to keep my drivetrain clean. but it only gives a little over 100 miles.

Buy a gauge that measures chain stretch.

2,500 miles on first chain, now at 5,200 miles on the bike with the second chain and the original cassette. What's the distances on your rides? Lube every other ride is pretty excessive.

You have a 9 speed chain and a hub motor so depending on how well you maintain it you can get the mileage you have mentioned.
Distance is also not a very good metric, if you are climbing/mountain biking then same chain will wear out less than half the miles it would take for one that was ridden on roads, gentle slopes etc.

But as other suggested you have to get a chain checker to be able to say if your chain really lasted 4200miles or it has already worn out. You can also use a ruler, not accurate but will give you an idea. Shifting smoothly really doesn't tell you the story, one of my chains was worn beyond 0.75 but was shifting very smoothly.

Usually when the chain is changed in time (around %0.5 mark) you can keep your cassette up to 3 chains.

I agree with @Johnny ; with a hub drive your chain, cassette, rear derailleur, and chain ring wear will be more like a conventional bike rather than the higher wear that a mid-drive subjects these parts to. With that said, 6,000km is a lot for a chain, even with your frequent lubrication schedule. You may find that the chain is all ready beyond it's recommended wear limit. It may still shift smoothly as it has 'worn into' the cassette, etc. If this is the case, a new chain can introduce shifting issues that can only be corrected by replacing more drive train components, or reinstalling the worn chain and 'riding till something gives'. I don't prefer this approach as it tends to strand you miles from your trail head without the right parts to make it home. YRMV, but I prefer to avoid the 'walk of shame'. Just sayin'...

I have an E8000 drive unit and did just under 11,000km before I changed out my first drive train consisting of chainwheel, chain, cassette & derailleur pulleys

I’ve done a total of 40,000km on the ebike now and average ~10,000km per drive train change out
TIP: I replaced the nylon derailleur pulleys with ceramic ones at the first service and so far they have lasted over 30,000km

I clean & lube my chain twice per season (+/- 1000 miles). The bike now has just over 3000 miles on it and my chain gauge shows it's only 20% worn. The bike is a rear hub drive though, which is easier on chains than a mid drive.

It seems likely you need a new chain, but mileage isn't a good metric. Get a chain measuring tool and check for sure.
