How is the Lancer? Budget FS BBSHD worth it?

I find myself in a bit of a situation. I have a Sondors LX on order that claimed a January ship date back in September. Since then their bikes have been delayed and at this point I feel like I won't get it until March or April which is unacceptable. The reasons I went with the LX were: Price ($2000), motor (Bafang ultra), battery (48v21ah) and tire (26x4.9).

The last few days I have been contemplating cancelling my Sondors LX and began searching for something else. A few bikes have come to mind, all of which were so far out of my budget I was about to give up. Until just recently I remembered Bolton. Jumped over to their website and found the Lancer. The price point is doable. The tires are doable. The full suspension is a definite plus. My hesitation comes from the motor (BBSHD) and the battery (48v14ah but with provisions for a second battery).

What do I do? Take the plunge for roughly $1k more than my original purchase? Hold out and hope Sondors actually delivers (literally and figuratively)? Or keep searching for a bike that hits my wants without making my bank account squeal?

That's exactly what Bolton does and there is nothing wrong with that per say. He repackages a bunch of bikes. I don't think the BBSHD is bad. It was a long story from months ago. I've already moved on from that. At the time, my hesitation was spending more money for an inferior battery and motor as compared to the bike I already had on order and was waiting for. All because it was available sooner with less drama.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the BBSHD on its own.

$2000 for an Ultra with a 48v21ah
Or.
$2800 for a BBSHD with a 48v14ah

That was what I was trying to work out and since that last post have already made a decision to stick it out with the LX.. tracking number should be in any day now.

I think these delays are all Covid related. Its hard to find pedal bikes right now too. I think I'd stick with the Sondors and hope things get back to normal soon. $2000 for an Ultra with a 48v21ah seems hard to beat. Its hard to build a bike for that. Good Luck!

I think you are making the right decision, they were on scheduled to delivered on time as promised but have been sitting now for a couple of weeks waiting to be unloaded at the port in L.A.

The price is lower, the battery is 30 to 40 percent bigger and is built into the frame, and you are going to probably have to wait even longer to get one at this point.
I am waiting for a Sonders ebike myself and from what I'm seeing it's going to be worth the wait.

Went back and forth myself between the LX and the Sabre from Bolton. Just think Kyle at Bolton will be better in the customer service area than Sonders is. Also like the bigger motor, brakes, and the adjustable handlebars. I think the Sabre will be a great bike.

The Sonders also has an Ultra motor. I would have bought a Bolton bike, they sold out fast while I was still thinking about it. if they hadn't sold out and probably would still be waiting for one.

Yes they have, I think they will be game changers. If you look closely at the lx frame you will not see any welds because there are none.
There are welds. About 4-5 inches forward of the tail lights and on the inside of the support for seat post. The LX frame reminds me of the Riese and Muller Nevo. It's different enough to stand out without shouting "look at me!"

Anyways I actually still like the Bolton Lancer/Eunorau HS fat. I think it makes a great budget full suspension fat tire mid drive bike and if they can work a nicer battery in to it I would absolutely consider it as a second bike. Certainly would be good competition for the Sondors Rockstar based on price and specs (that is if they put a bigger battery in it *and if Sondors ever ships the Rockstar*)

Your hesitation comes from the motor? That sounds like you're not particularly a fan of BBSHD?

Eunorau introduced the Specter-S, I have a feeling Bolton might sell it soon?

That bike looks awesome. Too expensive for me though. For that kind of money I'd stretch a little more and go for the Hydra from Watt Wagons.

I didn't see the welds before, they are there. Overall the way its been designed and manufactured is alot cleaner than some of the competition. I did see the similarities in design to the Nevo. I have a Rockstar on order with an updated estimated shipping date for the end of March. The Cruisers are supposed to be coming out very soon just as soon as they can get the containers off cargo ships that are all backed up at the port.
