Hello, I'm a retired nurse, practicing artist, avid bicyclist, and e-bike owner, buying my Pedego Element last November.

I have put well over 1,000 miles on my e-bike, Charlie. Charlie speaks in four-syllable phrases, and when first riding him, he said, "My name's Charlie". Other times Charlie has asked, "Where we goin'?" or says, "Help me, buddy".

Thanks for the interest and support, PedalUlma, but I have not as yet taken a photo of Charlie on the road.

@Davey Do. As a Medical Professional, I am taking you into confidence because of your training and empathy. I have a Specialized Roll today that is getting Identity Affirmation Surgery and a new bell. The bike has always self-identified as an electric Como! It didn't feel comfortable in its own skin and there was the possibility of self-harm. And there were other problems such as what to do about the prom. I needed to make room for the mid-drive and reroute the rear housings over the bottom bracket so they will not get crushed by the motor. Next the motor goes in, then the battery.

RN Davey, Thank you so much for your understanding. Yes! "Quality of life." Authenticity, in being one's true-self while having others accept who you really are inside and Out to the whole world. As you know, there is a contingent with a mindset from a previous century that wants bikes only to be confined to 'What is on their Birth Certificate Only." I know that you will want to know that the major surgery towards transition Was a Success! Next is when the true electricity kicks in. The patient is already feeling identity-true, excited and ready for the power of a whole new life inside, and socially while at school or just on the commuter train. As a Surgeon the majority of work was on the underside. Delicate procedures. The upper portion is relatively simple and more cosmetic in nature. I like your bike. Having an original is a great security measure. Besides, it is just fun and creative.

As you well know, all surgeries are not successful, as in the case of my old single-speed cruiser, Dyno:

Oh, he looks well and enjoys life, but the surgery to install an engine was long and painful for all involved. The surgeon was operating outside of his knowledge, abilities, and the consultants were inadequate, to say the least.

So inadequate where the online instructions that I made some rivaling instructions and emailed them to the consultant:

All's well that ends well. This ordeal motivated me to seek out e-bikes and I am now a Happy Camper, while Dyno grazes placidly in the pasture.

It's a tough decision, believe me, I know, PedalUma.

The first one, even with gas prices as high as they are, will be the least expensive in the long run. Oh sure, the second one is very appealing, but maintenance costs and noise levels are factors to consider.

Back in the '70's, when Honda introduced its 70cc motorbikes, they were compared to dating an obese woman: "They're fun to ride, but you wouldn't want to be seen on one in public".
