I have yet to ride an ebike, but love the idea of ease of travel in and around the Hamptons, even though there are many dangerous roads without shoulders. Today I finally decided on two Lectric xp Step-Thru 2's so that my wife and I can throw them in the car and get to safer areas to ride and explore. Today I ordered the XP 2's after several weeks of hesitancy due to an acute case of analysis paralysis. So, here I am, now fully committed, but at the same time, wondering if 3 or 4 hundred more dollars might not buy me and my wife a measurably better folding ebike than the xp2's. So many second and third thoughts. I'm wondering if anyone wants to weigh in with their opinion as to what a bit more $ might bring in terms of quality of ride. I own a Kawasaki 1000, so getting around on two wheels isn't new to me, but I love the idea of something light, agile, requiring some degree of effort and comfortable enough to put on twenty miles without wishing I'd made another choice.

Sorry but noone is likely to tell you that you made a mistake after the fact...However, I will say that many people on here like their Lectrics very much indeed. I have never even seen one, so go to the Lectric subforum and read up.
And most people love their first ebike like their first car.

Art Deco, yes, I notice posters on here are not likely to tell newbies like myself that they've made a horrible buying decision. But I can always cancel my order up to the point when, obviously, It's too late. Since the XP's don't even ship for awhile, I think I may be in canceling range for a couple days, at least.
I'll take your advice and check out the Lectric subforum. All my tons of research and I never did that! Thanks.

Welcome, Street Pedaler! Don't second guess yourself. Everyone starts somewhere. Overall from what I've seen online and in YT vids, the Lectric bikes are pretty popular and well received. I purchased my first ebike in January and took delivery in April. I did my research and chose my bike. It's not a "main stream" company but they are local and their bikes fit my needs. I liked it so much that I purchased a second one in a different color as a backup if needed and to be able to share ebikes with my family and friends. Enjoy!

I guarantee that it's not a "horrible buying decision" ... too many happy owners on here for that to be true. It is an inexpensive bike, but for many situations, that's exactly what you want.

That's exactly why I bought mine . . . . and to store inside my motor home so I can ride wherever we park, paved roads or not

I will predict that you will be very impressed with the quality of your Lectric bikes and the support the seller offers. How they can build that bike and ship it for free anywhere in the USA for less than $1K and still make any money is a mystery to me!

OMG! I can't believe that you bought 2 Lectric bikes when only for a few dollars more you could have had a much better quality bike with a bullet proof warranty. See if you can cancel the order and then check out Best Bikes

You need to jump in at some point. After a 18-months you might want to sell them and get something different when you have more confidence. That would be a lot cheaper than renting electric bikes even if you sell at a loss. Think of it like getting a starter musical instrument. You do not need to start with a Steinway to get off the bench and into the game. Trust @Art Deco. He would tell you if you made a bad choice.
I would ride the D8i Chrome in the Hamptons. 50-t, 95Nm, IGH-8, ChroMo with Coffee cup holder.

Though I confess I'm patting myself on the back that I took a look at Gionnirocket's Best Bikes recommendation before I canceled my order. Typically I follow directions to a T, so I'm feeling pretty, pretty good I didn't fall for that one. Lesson learned!

I will say the coffee cup holder is genius, so yes to that. The coffee thermos on the down tube - for sure. Chroming both bikes will lead to a lot of confusion and rancor, so probably only mine.

Since you are sure about the 2 bikes you ordered, I will introduce you to the N+1 equation, even if it's a bit early.
It gives you the correct number of ebikes to buy; where N equals the current number of bikes you own. There are various complications that you can search the forum for if you get bored. This stuff is supposed to be fun, after all ...

The 'coffee thermos' is the battery on that bike. Now batteries are much smaller. Those chrome Public Bikes are cool. I worked on one that is now in NYC. It looks like a Space Age bike JFK would ride on the Vineyard. Specialized made a chrome Roll. It has about the same geometry as the Como. That would also be fun to make electric. Supper comfy.

I carefully considered the possibility that the coffee thermos is a battery, but the tube running out the thermos bottom, probably straight to the gears, indicates to me, a newbie with no distorted preconceived notions, that some motors run on caffeine.

@PedalUma plays a good game of "hide the motor and battery" on his builds ... nope, no electric bike to steal here.
And his bikes have 2 or 3 times the power of my very stealthy Como with my motor behind the chainring. A middrive.

I'm noticing a couple posts by PedalUma that seem to indicate PedalUma knows how to take a quality bike and electrify it. Sounds to me like the best way to get what you want - build it yourself. I'm truly in awe.

Some pretty good builders on here, as well as some dealers. I am a casual rider only, and I carry a toolkit that I pray I never need to use.

This is what is on the stove today, a classic touring bike. The front and rear racks just arrived. It was a three-speed soon it will be a seven with internal brakes and gravel tires. The bar is getting leather grips and tape for changing up positions on long rides.
