Help with electrifying a Taga cargo trike gen 1

Hoping to put a tsdz on this since my friend would like a torque drive set up
72 bottom bracket

shop feels like we don't have a lot of width in the rear tire and my friend does not love cadence sensing even turned down low
121 width on rear axle-28 spoke

waiting for pedaluma to Chime in on the tsdz possibly fitting

considered even a oneroller? kit

it has to have some kind of electric for her and she may just have to get used to a cadence set up or only use throttle

any suggestions would be great

Sorry no the Taga trike has wide reinforcements around the bottom bracket and according to this compatibility document by David Hall from eco-cycles the tsdz2 won’t fit if there is more than 8mm wall/shell thickness around the bottom bracket. The Taga electric versions used a rear hub motor and that still looks to be the best solution, acknowledging the hub width you describe might present issues this thread on Endless-Sphere recommends using a Q100H motor and removing the locknut and 15mm spacer to convert it to a 120mm width. I don’t know if it might be possible to fit a torque sensing bottom bracket because depending on the model it might entail drilling into the reinforcement piece around the BB. Others on the forum might be able to suggest a power based (as opposed to a speed based) controller that might suffice.

Thank you! Pedaluma said he did not think the tsdz would work well either so that one is out

Good info on the torque sensing hubs, I wasn’t thinking about the fact the torque sensor itself in a hub setup might be an issue

Worst case we can do only throttle , that may be the best solution for her
Will probably set it up with a kt controller and try turning it way down and if that is not enough just use throttle
