Welcome to the site and the hobby.
Check out the parts forum for ideas about security devices. When I work or shop I secure my bike to a power pole, gas meter, live conduit, or cart rack with a 3/8"x6' stainless steel sling and a $14 padlock. Stainless is harder to cut than regular steel. People that live in huge cities that have bike tethers everywhere use U-locks from Abus or Kryptonite.
