My husband and I have just bought two Cube ebikes (a Touring Hybrid One 500 and a Town Pro Hybrid 500)...and boy are we loving them! Just started commuting to work... makes it so much more fun! We're struggling on where to find insurance though... does anyone have any tips?

Update for others that may also be struggling with insurance in Ontario...I called Veloinsurance who advised that they can't insure bikes in Ontario. I then went back to my house insurance provider (TD) who initially said that they couldn't cover them because there was a motor (even though I explained about pedal assist)....the second time I called and asked if the bikes could be listed as a special item on the policy. The answer this time was yes! I then had them double check with the underwriter (call me cautious) who confirmed that they can be insured as a special item. Total cost is $84 Cdn (incl tax) for the year for both bikes....insured up to $6k (presuming they both don't get stolen at the same time, we're good!). Now I can stop stressing!

Welcome! I'm in Toronto. I'm glad to hear you were able to find an insurer who would cover your ebikes. When I got my first scooter style ebike 3 years ago, I spent an an entire day calling one insurance company after another and being turned down "we don't insure those, because we don't have to in Ontario". I guess it looks like I will have to make a few more phone calls. I just bought a bike style ebike with pedelec so maybe the style of ebike has something to do with it.

In the end I had a very helpful agent who was willing to escalate it at the same time as going to the underwriters. Keep trying...it should pay off!
