The ebike industry should give me commission! This would be the 5th person I have convinced to go the ebike way!

So my new co-worker, I took him to a local bike shop yesterday and he rode a whole bunch of bikes and the two that he really like the most - they couldn't be more different!

Haibike Sduro Hardseven 6.0 2017 vs Specialized Como 2.0
$1999 vs $2600

Why the Hardseven? He likes the 2.8" tires. He loves the feel of the Yamaha motor. It's zippy! He feels the Yamaha motor is an extension of himself rather than superman pushing him from the back! He loved the front suspension! and he absolutely loved the price! He really likes the ride geometry! He feels like the weight is super balanced and overall the experience stood out compared to others he tried!
He doesn't like the looks of the bike per say! It's not very stealth looking!

Why the Como 2.0? The upright riding position. He described it as riding in a recliner, super relaxed ride! He loves the look. The motor is super quiet. Overall the bike is relatively stealthy. He likes the price of the hardseven more than the $2600 como! He feels like the looks of the Como is more business professional than the Sduro!

So good folks of EBR, what are your thoughts on these two choices? Any insights? suggestions? words of wisdom?

His daily commute:- About 9 miles one way. Mostly flats with 3 small hills.

The hardseven is more versatile. You could do some off-road. The only reason I could see for the Turbo is if he wanted a rack and panniers. The extra 601 dollars could be used elsewhere.

Don’t they have the Haibike Urban Plus? You were asking about it in another thread. It looks pro and comes with a rack. It’s cheap too. $1750 is the current US price, right?

The shop didn't have the Urban plus and he is adamant on not buying things he can't test ride on. Yeah it's $1699. Probably the greatest commuter bike steal on the market right now. The shop owner is only interested in bringing in an urban plus if you put a deposit on it.

Admit it man!

That "friend" is no one but yourself in "E-bike acquisition syndrome trance" ;)

We all have been there. I would vote for Haibike. That hardseven is a great choice.

Hahah! :p Do I seem ashamed of my "disease"? I don't need to hide behind the friend! I wish his wife was mine. Wife acquisition Syndrome might be in order.

I have always have been a fan of "stealth" bikes. I would never pick the Hardseven :p but I agree with you. It might be more versatile choice than the Como.

I understand that they are pedelec 15mph.

They are 2 driving styles.

600 dollars is a lot of money difference.

Option 1

Extend the range or increase the total number of miles.

You can buy a second yamaha battery and have 1400 charge cycles.

1400/365 days= 3,8 years.....lot millas.

2600 dollars / 4 years/1460 days =cost 1,78 dollars day + more battery recharge=

2 dollars a day, if you exhaust all the miles per load battery.

Option 2

Legalization with the regulation of road circulation+be able to use day and night+accessories + speed unlocking

White and red light connected to the controller + external light for emergencies.

Fender

Option unlocked speed to 21/28 mph.

Buy gloves, waterproof clothing, seat more suitable for your body.

That would be 600 dollars more in Como 2.0.

I do not know if you can unlock speed in Como 2.0.

In Usa they have Christmas all year long .....

Congratulations for those prices

Specialized has always been great at marketing and product design. I have definitely eyed the Vado bikes; they look very sexy. But I get the impression that Specialized is not always good at service and support, and I would worry about something that has such a unique and proprietary system.
