Hi guys,

I am 63 years old and new to E-bikes. I test rode a Specialized Turbo Tero X 4.0 a couple weeks ago and really liked it! I placed an order for the Tero X 5.0 because I wanted a little more torque and battery power than the 4.0 offered. I'm hoping this turns out to be a good bike for me. From what I can tell Specialized seems like a top tier brand. I will mostly be riding the bike in the neighborhood to get in shape, and occasionally on a mild trail. No serious mountain biking for me.

Now the 1-2 week waiting period :( Waiting sucks! lol

One of the first things I want to do is trim the fenders. I think both the front and rear are a little long. I also want to try and find a platform that will mount to the rear rack. I've searched and searched and I cannot find anything that will bolt onto the existing rack. I did find this one picture on a forum, I think it might have been this one, not sure. The attached image is exactly what I was looking for. Does anyone know what this is?

I also need to get a hitch rack. I'm drooling over the Quik Rack Mach 2, but wife might choke if I drop that kind of money right now, especially after dropping $5500 for the bike right now at Christmas time.

Looking forward to spending time in this forum, learning as much as I can about E-bike tips & tricks.

Thanks!

I love hearing about anyone starting for the first time or getting back into (e)biking. I'm close to the same age and I grew up at a time when getting a bike for X-mas was the ultimate gift under the tree because it was freedom and 10X your range being outside all day (waaaay before video game, cable TV, computers, or internet).

I just purchased the Quik Rack Mach 2 and it took 2 months to arrive. Excellent bike rack, light weight at only 28lbs for the 2" hitch rack, 22lbs for attachment rack, no tools needed to attach/detach/adjust, fits my 4.8" fat tire long wheelbase mid-drive and wife's 2.3" plus size tire Radcity equally, and folds for compact storage at home or trunk. The only downside is securing 100% with rear fenders. It works; but, you can see how low the arm contacts the rear tire on the Quik Rack on the wife's Radcity with plastic fenders compared to the front. Quik Rack can secure on top of the rear fender. The Radcity's plastic fender isn't strong enough to secure to my liking at 65-75 mph hwy speeds compared to securing against lower on the rear tire.

Only takes a few seconds to adjust Quik Rack arm tire stop and tuck under the rear fender as high as I can.

Thanks much for the feedback. After seeing a video on the rack, I was sold on it. I do plan to do some fender trimming on my Tero X, partly for the rack and partly because I think they are too long.

Enjoy the day!

I've decided to get the Quikr Mach 2 Rack, and an add-on rack to carry my buddy's bike when we go out together. As an engineer, I can totally appreciate the design and construction of the Mach 2 rack. It's V-Nice! :)

Yeah, I have the 1Up which appears to be the same engineer behind the design. So solid, you never worry about your bikes when they are strapped on the back. I now keep mine on my car just in case I break down! If I go for a ride, my GF is on call as my rescue team!

Alright, here she is! I've had it just about a week now. I've only ridden it on 3 days as the weather here has been a little rainy last week. Also, I rode it a couple days ago in the cold and it was a little miserable. I think it was around 45-50 degrees, but with a 28 MPH wind (downhill in the neighborhood) it was not a fun experience. The hands got really cold and the eyes a bit watery. I cut that ride short :)

I'm hoping we get some better weather soon, but it's not likely. I did order some riding gloves and I'm going to try and get some lighter or clear lenses for my Oakley sunglasses. It seems eyewear is a must even in warmer weather. Bugs in the eye at 28 MPH are hazardous!

I'm really liking the bike! The Tero X 5.0 has everything I need and wanted. I even mounted a tiny trunk bag on the rear non-rack. The bag is easy on/off with Velcro attachment, and just the right size. I did not want one of those large trunk bags!

Just need some nice weather now...

@OnEdge: Get yourself proper cycling glasses! For me, I wear prescription glasses so I wear cycling goggles made to be used Over The Glasses.

Glad to hear about your wonderful new ride! (A bit jealous!)

Any suggestions for proper cycling glasses?
Unfortunately, I cannot help you with that much. Please Google a little bit. What you need for the Winter are clear or photochromic glasses that would cover the sides of your eyes, this style:

The lenses of the cycling glasses do wear. Expensive brands offer replacement lenses. In my opinion, it is not worthwhile to buy expensive cycling glasses but rather replace them every several seasons as the need arises.

Thanks again Stefan!

I have always liked and worn Oakley sunglasses. I'm pretty good at taking care of them, so to me they are worth the extra money. I have one pair that are 20 years old and still don't have a scratch. The Oakley optics are excellent, but they are ridiculously expensive.

The ROCKBROS are so inexpensive it makes me wonder if they are any good. Guess I'll do more research and look at more brands. I like the Oakley Jawbreakers with the photochromic lenses, but they are $283, that's just stupid expensive. I have 3 pairs of Oakley glasses currently, maybe I'll look for photocromic lenses for one of those instead of getting new glasses altogether - we'll see.

Thanks for the feedback!!
