Has “waitress” vs. “waiter” become passé as well? I’m out of touch (and rather disinterested ), so if I still use “actress” please forgive me.

The fundamental question is interesting though. Since most (all?) of the Romance languages have gendered nouns, are they offensive in some way to some people? Not that I care, mind you, but I never considered it before.
