Front page LA Times today regarding Ebikes

ezgo markets a fat tired farm bike for 2k,no pedals 20 mile range 56 volt guess it would be pretty nice if you already had a "constellation" of ezgo tools ,due to my experience with a 40 volt ryobi string trimmer i really want a big lithuim powered estate mower now.

My electric Stilh chainsaw and overhead pruner (battery is interchangeable) are convenient, quiet, and powerful. I see Stilh has a battery zero turn now.

I would like a pnewmatic plunge saw overhead pruner. The heavy motor would stay on the ground and a light air hose would go up. The double sided blade would buzz into the wood. Just take a small wedge from the bottom then cut down from the top. Don't look for it, these do not exist.

See a lot of that in coastal north San Diego County, too. Super73s are very popular here. Maybe half have a helmet onboard, but it's usually on the rear rack, not the rider's head.

OK, I get that a kid can leave home wearing a helmet and put it on the rack once he's out of sight. But what about the many with no helmet anywhere? How does a parent let a kid leave the house like that??

No surprise that this is pretty much a young male phenomenon. No shortage of young girls on ebikes here, but I never see them without a helmet and rarely on a Super73-like ride.

Unlike many of their male counterparts, the girls are generally responsible, courteous riders who actually know and obey traffic laws and basic bike safety rules. They often have a girl passenger and sometimes get distracted by that. But overall, happy to share the bikeways with them.
I have concern about teenagers of either gender driving autos with their friends along. Too easily distracted. We had an incident in Bellingham a few years ago where a girl driving her friends around rear-ended another car which had stopped at a crosswalk and killed a toddler in the crosswalk. Too much excitement driving with friends in the car. Ruined more than one life that day.

I'm with you. I have switched every yard tool possible (with exception of small roto tiller) to battery power. Quieter, and no cranky hard starting engine, no fuel to buy, no carburetor gumming up, no blue smoke. I've had a belly full of two-strokes.

I've been debating on whether or not to buy an electric lawn mover, but I'm worried that it will be a gutless piece of crap. 😂

I've already got Ryobi tools that use the same batteries.

Yeah right.
Just like my ebike gets "Up to" 100 miles per charge. 😂

I've got 2.0 AH batteries, and my grinder will kill a battery in 5 minutes.

I'm sure the Ryobi mower will cut ¼ acre of the grass if was already cut, you had a Really strong tailwind, and you only cut downhill. 😂

We had an incident in Wallaceburg where a car with 5 people in their early twenties were playing chicken with an 18-Wheeler just over a year ago.

The two in the front were decapitated, one in the back was also killed.

The survivor in the back that remained conscious and the driver of the 18-Wheeler were still in the psychiatric hospital a year later.

My sister as a passenger died in such a situation

I've started seeing this PSA on TV lately.

That said.. at that age we had a 4 person minimum. The driver, passenger/shotgun keeping an eye out for girls and police. Back seat roller and another to corral the six pack... smh...

I have a Ryobi 40 volt mower, and it is amply powerful for mowing my admittedly small lawn. I also have extra 40 volt batteries that I keep charged up. In fact, the mower itself has a special slot to stow the extra battery so it's with you always. This is not a self-propelled mower, so it doesn't matter whether I'm mowing downhill or with a tailwind.
I am very doubtful that an 18volt mower would have enough power. But I thought the same thing about the string trimmer; my first one was 40 volt. After it died, there was nothing available but 18 volt. Turns out it is powerful enough to do the job. This is the type that has a swiveling head that converts from trimming to edging.

I've have an Atlas 80v mower now on my 4th year and I easily cut thick zoysia grass for over an hour with two 2.5ah batreries that can be loaded into the mower at once. They use Samsung cells and haven't noticed any decline in performance.
I've had nothing but bad luck with Ryobi... especially the watered down terd versions sold at home depot. Not sure if they even make the contractor versions anymore

What I like about the 18 volt mower is that it comes with two 4ah batteries that will fit the tools I already have,..
A drill, cut-off saw, circular saw, grinder, light, and weed eater (the weed eater works OK but it's kinda gutless and slow).

Maybe I could just think of it as buying a couple batteries for $420 that comes with a free mower.

If the mower turns out to be a useless terd,..

Then I can just keep using my old gas burner.

Maybe I can pimp out the mower with my 48v 25ah Reention battery?
That would be 😎 !!

20 amps at 54.6 volts aughta get that mower going !!
Or it will blow up?

I'd be fine with either outcome. 😂

I've been happy with my Toro battery-electric mower. It's on its 3rd season. My lawn's surface is very rough, too, due to my wife's chicken which scratches divots everywhere. So this mower gets bounced all to heck.

I took the loss with Ryobi and moved on. I still have about 5 tools collecting dust.
I'd rather use my 30yr old 9.6v NiCad Makita which is indestructible or my new Li_ion Hercules.

Speaking of the good old days, when I was a kid we could ride standing up on the front seat. Everybody looked with great suspicion on the first seat belts that came out. Of course they were optional. I don't remember anyone of my acquaintance ever having a serious accident.

We used to lay across the "shelf" under the rear window above the trunk.

I remember when my sister sat on the seat belt buckle on a hot summer day when she was in a bathing suit.

She had the mirror image of GM burned into her leg for a couple weeks. 😂

have a whole set of ryobi tools and they do everything i ask of them if its extremly tough i just plug in the bosch or the table saw,got a 40 volt convertable string trimmer and i will never go back to that 2 cycle junk.travelling contractors told me due everything getting legs and walking away they buy a lot of the weekend warrior things, like(ugh) firestorm lower priced ryobl and things like that, ryobi is basically the same as about 4 other brands now i am told,if i were a contractor ,would go with "red fuel" probably over the overated dewalt stuff. have driven pounds and pounds of screws with ryobi cordless drills and inflated numerous tires with the ryobi inflator, there is an outlet in tenn. where i used to buy refurbed ryobi cordless tools( when it used to be prudent to do so,now its probably better to just buy new) used to love home depot because of their return policy, now they are on my short list along with lowes particulaily because of their affliation with synchrony bank( stay away)
