Connection looks good. Its hard wired into the down tube.ok so this is the first time hearing a bike called Freway VR-01, but according to EBR ( https://electricbikereview.com/freway/vr-01/ ) , it's powered by Bafang motor.
If display is broken, you can just replace it with other Bafang display (provided that connector fits).
The other problem is though, it might not be the display's problem, could be the speed controller too.
Thats a very good idea. I did fish out the connector for the display, it's a 4 pin connector. I don't know how I will get a look at the speed controller. It looks like it is up in side the frame. I will contact EggRider and see if they can help. I appreciate your help with this, I was dead in the water and feel the bike has a lot of use left in it if I can get this fixed. That's really hard to say. In most cases, a lot of displays are compatible.
A lot of ebike owners are getting stranded because how fast ebikes evolve, the bike you bought 3 or 4 years ago is already out of production, your controller, display, motor, etc.. are already out of production too.
Have you ever heard of a display called EggRider?
It's a popular small display used by many ebike owners, they do show you how to determine if your controller is compatible with the display.

This site also shows what part of your ebikes are interchangeable, though I feel this article may be a bit outdated.

"If you have a more modern full function display, and you cannot find an OEM replacement, you may have to replace the controller and the display as a set. Your original controller will not work without the correct display."
But I suspect this isn't the always the case, you may not have to replace the controller if you find a compatible display.
Not really, just more range would be great. I know the motor is on the smallish side, but I thought for this rehab I would stick with it. I do like the controller that fits under the battery cradle. With the Hailong controller, do I then have to get a Hailong battery? And then all I need is a Display/PASSo you have a VR 01?
Bafang is very popular motor, you can just buy a controller, battery, and display to make it work.
There are way too many options.
Any particular spec you're looking for?
Hello Timpo, if I get this under battery controller, all I need additionally would be battery, PAS display, and throttle? Would I have to install cadence/torque sensors? Is the PAS built into the display? Just trying to complete my checklist. Thank you.Yes, if you get a controller and battery, you will need a display and PAS sensor that connects to the controller.
Thank you, Timpo. That's very helpful. One more thing that I am unsure of. This is under frame controller I would like to use.I think your checklist should look something like this
- hidden controller (under-battery controller)
- display
- motor inhibitor for brakes
- Y - cable for display to brakes, controller, etc.
- PAS sensor (cadence sensor) I don't think torque sensor is available for this application, but I'm not 100% sure.
- battery (Hailong or Reention Polly) make sure to get the right hidden-controller & battery so that it will fit on the cradle
If you want the throttle, you can, but make sure you get the right Y - cable for it.
