Welcome Baliwag. I’m your size, 74, retired and in decent health. Last year I bought an Aventon Pace 500, man’s bike because I refuse to make it easy on myself. its a class3 bike and a very powerful machine. For $1,400 dollars, there is a lot of bike with quality parts but without the bells and whistles. Type in Aventon bikes in this forum and read about them. I think you would be happy with this bike for the price. Good luck

I'm a few years behind you but also looking for a folding ebike. I've done extensive research and I assume when you say trails, you're not talking about mountain biking but more or less improved trails. For starters, I would not buy one of the smaller bikes with 16 inch wheels. Just too unstable for me.
A lot depends on what you want to spend. On the high end, I like the Tern Vectron S10 for about $3,700. For somewhere around $2,800 or a little more, Bike Friday, builds a great light weight touring bike that comes with tons of options for hauling gear. In the $1,200 to $1,800 range there are tons of options. Green Bikes has an interesting line up.
Keep in mind the above comments are from someone who's never owned an electric bike, only test ridden them. : ) Good luck and keep us posted.

I own both folding and regular ebikes and I would say the ride of the folding bikes is too harsh for anything other than good pavement a short rides. The folder is perfect for throwing into the car and discovering new places to ride. Otherwise I always end up going for the full size bike.

I'm 72 and a new member here also. Last week I ordered 2 Lectric XP folding ebikes. You might take a look at the comments and reviews on this forum. They are pretty positive and favorable and the price is certainly right at $899. A drawback that everyone has suffered from is the scarcity and long shipping delays due to the popularity and availability. I was told to expect delivery in the first 2 weeks of July. I can wait, there will be plenty of summer left and I have some things planned anyway. I'm in Oregon, retired and a 6', 160 lb vet. What state are you going to be exploring? I recommend you read as much as you can tolerate about folders. That played a big part in my decision and I figure at my price point, I can always sell if I'm not happy or want to move up. Ya gotta start somewhere, but more importantly, ya gotta start! Go enjoy.
