Faster Charging?

Has anyone found a way to charge the batteries faster?
I'd like to do some car camp trips and bike riding.
Currently it takes around 5-6 hours to charge my 12 Ah battery.
In theory it seems like an inverter generator able to run at 1800 watts (like a Honda 2000) should be able to charge the battery in under 1 hour, if this doesn't produce an overheating situation.

For other reasons I did add a 400 watt inverter to my truck, so in theory I could charge the battery in 3.5 hours, still better than the 6 hours I need to allow for now.

Safest bet is probably to buy an extra battery and not risk any explosions. But I have to say my neo batteries all seemed to charge within 2-4 hours, both 9's and 12's

Thank you for the suggestion. I do have two batteries (9Ah and 12Ah).
Are you getting 2-4 hours of recharge time from batteries discharged so only 1 bar shows?

The whole idea of a BMS (battery management system) like what's in your Neo Jumper battery packs is to prevent over amping of those cells inside It's just too easy to overheat and have a spectacular thermal event if you charge too fast, which I don't think is your goal Mtnm!

What type of charging times are others on the forum getting?
As Ann points out I don't want a class D fire event, but I also would like less than 6 hours to charge a 12 Ah battery.

What's the amp hours of your current charger? If its a 3 amp charger, 4 amp would be safe on the larger 12amp battery and shave some time off. Also, have you checked the voltage output of the charger to see if its doing what the label sez it ought to be--occasionally, that is an issue.

I have the same 2A charger that comes with 11.6ah battery. It's slow. Takes about 1 hour per bar to recharge, up to 5 hours.

It is rated as a 2 amp charger. The labeled voltage is 36 volts, but the measured voltage is around 42 volts.

I have sold my Neo Jumper (with a little heartache) and I did face similar charging times.
The BMS should accept 4A charging but EM refuses to support that method as it may shorten the lifespan.

< smirk> Stromer ST2 charges at 4.5A (for a 48V system) and Spitzing charges at 5A (for a 880Whr capacity battery).

If EasyMotion has decided they will not support a higher than 2 amp charger I'll just have to accept that and move on.
The NeoJumper is a great fit for the type of riding I end up doing so I'll likely be keeping it for several years.

I've given thought to how to run a charger for 6 hours when camping. One way is to simply keep my truck idling for 6 hours and use the inverter; surprising how little fuel an idling truck consumes. The other option is using an inverter running and chained for the equal length of time.
Anyone have other options I'm missing?

One option is to have two batteries and two chargers. This can give you an effective charge rate of 4 amps. I have a second battery now it really unlocks a lot of potential. Excellent gift for the eBike person in your life including yourself.

2 batteries is what I'm leaning towards as well. I'm waiting to see if I can hold out for the (rumored) higher ah capacity 36 volt battery allegedly to be released for 2016. I heard there might be a 14ah battery and I'm crossing my fingers and toes it's at least that much and that it will be backwards compatible to the 2015 EVO bikes.

There are people who charge their bikes at 21A (2 or 4 or 5 is nothing)
But you really have to know the ins-outs of your controller and set up the charging device.

Take a look. This guys charges at 21A and he completes charging his 1.5Kwhr battery in less than an hour.

I had a Neo Volt before and I have used 4A charger and it works (I did it only 3 times). I was able to charge 9Ah battery from 10% to 90% in ~ 2 hours and the battery gets slightly warmer.
I don't know the limiting amperage for BMS used in EM bikes but if you have a battery that is out of warranty, it's worth trying and 4A shouldn't lead to any catastrophic damage.
I can say that with certain confidence because both Stromer and Easy Motion batteries are manufactured by the same company in Taiwan (TD HiTech) and Stromer ST1 uses 3 or 4A charger and it works fine.

The batteries are made up of 18650 cells and the cells are made by Samsung.

I believe you have a EVO cross, take it out and look underneath and see who is the manufacturer. I had two NEO's and both were manufactured by TD HiTech.

There are tons of chargers on Em3ev and Aliexpress.

Once your battery goes out of warranty, you can tinker with it
