E trike touring possibilities

Hello, we are two recumbent trike cyclists. Have Greenspeed Magnums. Live in queensland Australia. Aged 73 and 65. Two years ago we cycled from Atherton to Gympie via outback queensland. We had 200 km between towns of any sort in quite a few spots of the north. We had to carry 10litres of water each, as well as all our food and camping gear. Our trikes were not e powered.
We are planning on doing this trip again next winter 2020. Many of our friends have now gone into e-Bikes. We have considered converting our trikes to electric assist but the distances between power sites seems too prohibitive, unless we carried an extra/s battery. From what I’ve read, what happens if these fail for some reason? Extra weight to push with inadequate gears? Any suggestions would be welcome thank you.

You could easily put a 48 Volt, 17 AH battery on it, and carry a spare.

Here is one I converted recently, using a 48 v, 500 watt Tongsheng mid drive at the crank. Minimal weight is added by the motor. Torque sensing capability extends range. With e-assist, you may not need as much water either. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I will read up more on this now you have pointed out a direction for me to go to. Do you know how far you will get on a full battery? I know there are a lot of variables to consider. Thanks.
