DRT Disaster Relief Trials

Something that I find attractive about the D.R.T.s is that they are about reaching out collectively not hunkering down individually.
Ever watch the TV series "The Colony"? It was two seasons, first one was better than the second. It gave an idea of the dynamics of people living an extended time outside of their comfort zone.

TV series
I like to do and make things, or reading. I have yet to see a TV show about someone sitting watching TV. I also like stretching my comfort zones. What happened on the show? How did being outside of their comfort zones develop the characters?

I think that some people are Adrenaline based in their personalities. Some are Serotonin based. Some are Oxytocin based. The Oxytocin based seek comfort and belonging. The Serotonin seek internal development and peace. The Adrenaline based seek external thrills and power.

If you think about it and take an objective look at historical disasters, your odds of survival will go up if you can cooperate and work together with others and rapidly disappear if you cannot.

So survival is a team sport and whoever has the Biggest Team "wins", probably.

Perhaps you aren't old enough to know that what you call an "adrenaline" personality ( younger me ? ) that stays alive long enough can age into what you call "serotonin" ... but still working on the peace part ...

This is what "preppers" usually miss. Nobody makes it on their own; we are a social species. For better or worse.

adrenaline" personality
The reason that I mention about personality types is that different people will act in different ways in a crisis. The adrenaline/testosterone types will want to take action and be in control even when these actions are counter productive or greedy. They have the need to do. They will even ask and judge others with the question, 'What do you do?' The oxytocin personalities will want to huddle and cuddle in a crisis and are tribal, belongers who will ask, 'What team/side are you on?' Implying, Us or Them. The serotonin types will think and be calmly mindful of the situation and will provide the moral recourses to stabilize the action/power types, and will bring belonging factions together in common purpose. They will ask, 'What do you think?'

I've reached the level of asking "What do you think?" And I am working on waiting more than 3 seconds for an answer before I forge ahead. Progress!

Something I find scary about the Oxytocin crowd is that they will ask you, 'What do you believe?' To determine if you are in-group or out-group. Because they want to be ever more in group they keep fractionalizing so they can be more 'us' and less like 'them.' It is funny that a guy with a Stealers hat can get in a fight with a guy in a Eagles cap when they probably have so much in common.

Think about gangs fighting for turf ... or monkeys fighting over a fruit tree ...

That is right @Art Deco. I cannot tell the difference between a Hutu and a Tutsi. But to them the difference was worth genocide. I also can't tell the difference between Israeli Mediterranean food and Palestinian Mediterranean food, or East Coast rap and West Cost rap that people have killed each other over. Edit: Or, that subtle differences in buggies and bonnets would keep two young people from holding hands in rural PA.

These are the rules and guides. The bike one of my partners has is a small triangle step-through cargo. It comes with two 7Ah batteries as standard and has been approved as a single battery bike. I will buy 36 feet of bungee making it in 3, 12 foot finished end lengths this week. It is so easy to tie anything with this stuff. The keys are crossing and double-half hitches.

Yeah, it might be worth having a land line (that would probably still work) and would certainly get less spammy calls and texts than my ( not so smart? ) cell phone does now. And I rarely use my phone for anything except phone calls. I think most battery operated devices would work, but IDK about that. Old time lead acid flashlights were supposed to work but lithium? IDK.
Lead acid flashlights? Maybe you mean zinc carbon or zinc air?

Here are some photos from that DRT event. We gathered downtown at the Petaluma river, loaded with about 60 pounds each and headed to the hills for a huge climb to 'pick up water' at a Western water tower. The scenario was an earthquake. Then we went crosstown to the North East to the J.C. to drop off the water and take supplies to the airport and did the timed obstacle course with vials of medicine (eggs) then headed to the South East side Kaiser to drop off the medicine and go to the West Side City Hall and then had beer and sandwiches at an outdoor café. That was fun. Our team had the best bungies so we won.

Tomorrow I will race a race car on my bike. That should be fun. It is the Crosstown Challenge.
