Dost Drop vs Benno Boost vs Benno RemiDemi

Hey everyone. I think I have narrowed my bike selection down to 3. The Dost Drop, and the Benno boost and remidemi. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions/thoughts/preferences when it comes to these models, their components, prices, etc? Thanks so much.

I recommend a test drive on all. The powerful BBS motor on the Dost is appealing but it uses a basic cadence sensor instead of the natural pedaling feel of the torque sensor on the Bosch equipped Benno bikes. I think the RemiDemi is really quite an awesome bike. And I don't think you'll crave much more power than the Bosch Performance Line motor offers. It'll climb any hill you point it at.

Thank you. The RemiDemi is actually my favorite as well. It seems like it has absolutely everything I’m looking for. I wish it were a tad cheaper, but maybe I’ll be able to find one on sale here over the winter or even a slightly used one. Thanks for the response.

All three could certainly handle hill climbing. I like the front rack option on the two Benno bikes, if you intend to carry your kids on the back you'll be glad for the ability to carry on the front rack a backpack with their stuff, also as you want to get exercise I'd recommend the Class 1 Benno bikes as the Bosch motors use a torque sensor that rewards pedal effort but more to the point you have to pedal.

I have ridden all 3! I got rid of the Dost due to the cadence sensor. I live in San Francisco and climb really steep streets (think sidewalks that have stairs) so if I ever stop on one, a cadence sensor really bites. I LOVE everything about the RemiDemi except that there is no speed option and they're not planning to make one yet to release soon either. I get my analog road bikes and mountain bikes up to 30 mph so I didn't want to be relegated to only an assist with 20 mph. But, it's a very cute bike! So, I have a Benno Boost coming in January with the latest update for extra torque. Good luck with your decision!

Most of the changes they make are to the battery and the torque. Look at those specs to see.
Also, the newest one puts the battery upright behind the seat post instead of under the cross bar so we'll have better/more water bottle cage options.
Did you decide what to get yet? So many great options!

I have not decided yet. I’ll probably end up going for whichever Benno I can get the best deal on. They’re all over my original budget, but I like them so much I’m just biting the bullet. I’ll keep you posted and please do the same for me please.

I already ordered a new Boost. Should arrive mid to late January but will have monster torque at 85Nm. My older one only had 55Nm and was still decent at a hillclimb.

What year was the previous one? And why did you upgrade?

I got rid of my 2017 this past spring now that my kid is big. I wanted a smaller (more rack friendly bike) but I have totally missed it and dislike the bike I switched to. They're still the same frame but better specs now so I'll gladly go back to an even better version of the Boost. Can't wait.

So you had a 2017 boost and then switched to what? You got rid of the boost because your kid is big? How old/big? I was thinking the boost over the RemiDemi because I'd like to take my 6-year old or 2-year old with me sometimes.

My kid can still fit on it, the rear rack can hold 130 lb's they say. The Remi holds 65 lbs and my kid just now weighs that much at 8 yo. I just meant she rides her own bike everywhere now. She's been riding pedals since she was 4 but didn't used to be able to go far like we enjoy so she would ride on the Boost. For hauling 2 kids I'd probably choose the Boost just because it has more torque (85 vs 65 Nm). The Boost was fine with my one kid but it was still hard on the biggest SF hills. If you ride mostly flat places it probably won't matter so much. I only ever got a stoker bar, never bothered getting a seat or rail, she was happy just holding on.

I switched to a 2020 Specialized Como 5.0. I have a Specialized Stumpjumper and Roubaix as my analog bikes and am generally a big fan but this Como is a dog. The derailer is crap and the chain is always coming off the biggest ring in the back. Also, the battery housing isn't a great design and it doesn't always want to fit just right. The electronics don't always start, lot of error codes. Never any problems or issues with the Benno so I'm happy to go back.

Thanks for all the info. I love learning more about these bikes, especially since I don't really live within 5 hours of a Benno dealer so I doubt I'll be able to ride one prior to purchasing. Is there a big difference between the battery location on the 2019 and 2020 other than for water bottles? My son rides his bike a lot too when we go to my inlaws (flatter), but we live on a steep hill so it's tough around here unless we put it in the van. Here's a question, and this may be silly, I don't know. Could I haul his bike on the back of the boost somehow?

It's also nice to use the walk assist mode if the hill in question is still too steep!
I think the battery movement only clears up more space in the center, might be slightly easier to remove/replace but not really a huge difference.
Funny you should ask, I've actually put my kids bike on the back of mine before! It wasn't super stable, lol, but it is possible. I'll have to set it up again and take a picture. I haven't done it since in person school stopped. I put the front wheel in one of the side rear foot rests and strapped that wheel and front of the bike to the rear rack. That leaves the rear wheel trailing behind you like a trailer! When she was still on a balance bike I could just strap the whole thing across the back rack.

I finally made a choice, and so far I'm loving it! Thanks to all who helped.

I was looking at the Benno Ejoy, but it appears none of the Benno bikes have a throttle? I use the throttle a lot for starting from a standstill.
