Do you remove your battery when you lock your folder up at the grocery store or restaurant?

As a newcomer to Ebikes, I have yet to leave my folding fat bike unattended even though I have purchased a Kryptonite U lock and 4 foot chain. Part of it is due to alot of places being closed due to Covid and also due to the hot weather where I live. 2 questions. Who removes their battery and to take it even a step further, does anyone remove their display? It seems like displays would be enticing to entry level bike thieves...

The issue then is are you prepared to carry around a 6-9lb battery? There are various carrying solutions, backpack is the simplest but also, depending on the shape of your battery, beer can tube, or portable oxygen tank carrier, my bottle battery fits inside my Arkel tailrider trunk bag but I usually leave my battery on the bike when running errands and only take it off the bike and inside when parked either outside work or in the bike shed at home

I have on a few occasions taken the battery with me, but most of the time I leave it on the bike and lock up the bike better than other bikes around it.

I have taken the bike inside some stores and buildings without anyone saying a word. Not often though. If you're spending some money in the grocery store, a bike takes up little more space than a cart and are about as clean or cleaner than many. Shopping carts are generally filthy. Don't take your mud caked mtb in the store. You have to be prepared to load up your groceries in a basket or panniers. If it's a store where they know you it helps.

So much depends on the crime in the area where you ride. Battery packs weight more than most want to carry around. With experience you'll get a better sense of what to do for your circumstances.

I decided to try that at my local Aldi. Parked the bike near the In door entrance to the side without any obstructions to foot traffic. The manager was fine with it from the get go. Never know til you simply ask. Saves some time having to do a full lockup.
