Dining out during Covid

Hi @Taylor57, that's an interesting question. It seems like restaurants here in Vancouver, BC Canada have put up plastic shields between booths to allow people to eat inside. Since it's rainy here and pretty cold this time of year, most people don't want to eat outside. A couple of months ago, the restaurants had to separate tables with shields and leave one open between, but it seems like this is not always done... a few restaurants have been very crowded, but others are leaving extra space and recording names and phone numbers as people come in. It's strange to see the inconsistencies, I feel safer with the plastic window shield things between tables, but then I'll see Skip The Dishes drivers (similar to Uber Eats, food delivery guys) come in with their mask off while people are sitting down eating. Thankfully, I haven't gotten COVID (that I know of) but I'm probably at the end of the list for vaccinations here. I've thought about driving to Arizona to visit family, feeling that a solo drive would be safe... but cases are pretty high there. Several of my friends in the US and in Canada have gotten COVID (one just this past week in Colorado, and her son seems to have caught it as well now). Bummer! Hope you're well

Both of us cook, thank God. We do get tired of cooking occasionally, and drag out a pack of hot dogs or fry up some burgers on those days neither of us is feeling inspired. I think it's amazing though, how frequently we do, and much more willing we are, when it comes to new recipes. We've discovered some really good stuff - way more than discovering a "dud"! Stuff neither of us have ever done before. We actually put a star on the top of the ones that were outstanding and they go in their own pile, as we both have trouble remembering them when we want to circle back and make them again! Still, I can't wait to comfortably enter a restaurant again. -Al

It might not for everyone but my wife has been trying new recipes from 'hello fresh'. They send all the ingredients and the recipes. You sound like you guys might be a little more advanced from a culinary perspective but you might find something. The ingredients and quality of the meat have always been good.

I think the idea is that your behavior does control when. I don't know call me crazy but if you weigh 400 lbs and smoked 5 packs a day and jogged in the fast lane in the middle of the night you might die sooner? I think it's a risk reward situation. I've gone out to eat plenty of times in my life and I plan on going out to eat plenty more times so going out to one meal right now, where I'm likely to be a little paranoid especially with a new more, maybe a couple more, contagious versions out there, and possibly not being around for all those future dine outs let alone others I enjoy doesn't seem like the reward is Worth the risk. Some people have more to live for, others seem to think it's a sign of bravery or strength to behave stupidly or callously towards others. The reality is the more people who are infected and out living like a normal life because they think they will be fine the more it will be spread to others who won't be fine. So the reality is you cannot really totally protect vulnerable people nor do we know everyone who would have a bad result. So when people say I'm not afraid okay maybe they're not afraid for themselves and that's fine but this isn't skydiving if your parachute doesn't open and you get squished into the ground it doesn't affect me or others. I guess there are a lot of people who really mean I'll be fine and I don't care if I spread it to four or five other people and so on and a bunch of old people die miserable deaths. Doesn't seem very Christian to me

I'm not going to argue with you on all this especially regarding Laura ingraham and whatever so-called doctor she had on. vaccines work by the same theory that her immunity through infection works. As in your body develops its own immunity to fight the virus, the vaccine does it by exposing it to the spike protein which allows the corona virus to infect your body, your body then develops an immune response to attack the spike protein when it comes in contact with it. The same thing happens with natural herd immunity through infection just that you're going to have a lot more deaths because you're having actual infections. A vaccine does create her immunity That's how we got rid of measles not by everybody catching it. You are not following signs you are following a politically slanted fake science. Okay so some Christians, a very small percentage, are so sure that they're not afraid of death that doesn't mean they go and drive into a tree at a hundred miles an hour at their first opportunity. I say it's unchristian to not care if lots of other people will die so that you can go out to eat

So Christians have no fear of death so I guess we shouldn't have any security when you get on an airplane correct? look if you want to take risks with your life and die I really don't care, that's your choice. The point here is that your choice is affect others If people are going around infecting other people they're killing other people. Newport Beach, CA (Orange County) and many restaurants were open for inside and outside dining. Word was, local authorities are not enforcing the rules of no in or out dining. What's it like in your neck of the woods?

I never denied it's a serious virus . I'm simple saying use some common sense . In Los Angeles only 1 Church is open. Over 14,000 people walk thru it's doors weekly Over 3000 through it's seminary . Not one single Covid death . While LA is being toted as the epi Center of Covid in California. So if nobody has died or even gotten ill in 7 months of going to this Church. They are either Supernaturally Protected . OR City official's are Lying about The Covid . Actions of our Public Officials are totally different then what they are telling us .
I live in Michigan . The Health and Human Services Top Official resigned last week. The reason he stated was Gov Whitmer hadn't been following the science for her lockdowns for at least 2 months .
There's 3 times the Population in the United States from WWII . That needs to be part of the equation. Plus you're a health Worker ? So all you are exposed to daily is the sick ?
Can you name any hospital in the USA that was over-run like they said would happen ?

Look at it like this . If this think was as serious as they are wanting us to think . Millions in America would have been sick and died . Think about it . All the major Grocery chains are opened . Perhaps the reason why it's 300,000 as you say, I'm not going to argue the numbers but I believe you're wrong, is possibly because of the shutdowns have you ever thought of that? That if we did nothing at all maybe it would be three or four million right now? The reason the flu is down is because of the mitigation efforts we're taking with covid-19. I think it would be clear that the shutdowns, the vast majority of people staying home way way way way more than ever before and the wearing of masks like never before have cut down on flu. It hasn't cut down on covid-19 as much which is a testament to how much more contagious it is, so therefore if we weren't doing any mitigation efforts, the same ones that have largely killed off the flu this year, then it stands a reason that we would have 10 times as many deaths at this point.

If you seriously have an open mind on the topic and are looking for real life evidence (not BS hearsay), you need to visit an ICU. Or better yet, tell somebody on ICU staff you don't think it necessary to wear a mask in public and are looking for a reason why that might be a good idea. It is moral, Jesus wanted to have said sacrifice the week and elderly and let them die for the sake of the majority being able to go out to eat. The intelligent and moral thing to do would be to have a functioning government that could provide targeted aid to the industry's affected until the vaccine has been distributed enough. That way the people who are losing income and I definitely feel for them would have it supplemented so they wouldn't have to choose between losing their livelihood or infecting and killing others. I believe countries in Europe like Germany have promised people who need to be shut down at least 75% of their income until October 2021 if necessary. They can stay home and not lose everything. That makes more sense than just giving thousands of dollars to everybody even those who haven't lost a job or income

The fact that we are wearing ineffective masks is one of the reasons why our infection rate is one of the worst in the world. Also I don't know if you've been in any grocery stores lately but it is not business as usual neither are clothing stores. My wife will go to the grocery store early in the morning when is largely empty get in and get out and then she sanitizes the hell out of her hands. It is not the same grocery store experience as it was 2 years ago. You're trying to argue that people are behaving as normal so why aren't we so infected and then you argue that we're all shut down and people are all losing their jobs because we're shut down. Those two arguments are mutually exclusive.

actually the virus doesn't get any weaker, I'm getting bored of replying to these misinformation posts but feel the need to for whatever reason, the virus is the same old virus what gets stronger is our immune systems that have been exposed to it and know how to attack it. just like when Europeans came to the United States and exposed native Americans to viruses they have never been exposed to they had very high death rates while most of the Europeans were unaffected. The reason for that is most of the people in the European gene pool who were likely to die from the same infection were taken out of the gene pool, through death, this is not the ideal solution. Herd immunity is the answer but there are two ways to get herd immunity, one is to have everyone basically go out and get infected and whoever dies dies, which will be a lot of people, or if you have managed to develop effective vaccines you try to vaccinate everybody before that happens and try to avoid death.

I'm not mad I just find it sort of sad and pathetic. I think people are mad to an extent because people spreading information has caused thousands and thousands of people to die. Some people have lost loved ones to this. All of us have been affected by it. You seem to be arguing against yourself again. You're talking about Walmart's being packed and that's spreading infection yet you seem to be calling for people to open everything up back to normal? Yes they didn't shut everything down they can never shut everything down because people need groceries and prescriptions in order to live. This is why the word essential is used. You need food in your house you don't need to go to the bar, you don't need to eat in a restaurant. Yes we would all like to but it is not necessary. If they had a real shutdown for 4 weeks it would have had a massive difference but so many states resisted for political reasons until the virus was so prevalent and obvious that it was too late. Anyone with even a relatively useful brain would have known that once it was in the country it was going to spread everywhere. waiting to shut down a state until they have a high infection rate is the proverbial closing the barn door after the horses out. we all know it came out in 2019 and that's why it's called covid-19 we understand that whether it was in August or December when it first entered the human race I don't know and maybe we will never know. That is absolutely irrelevant. The reason why you didn't have massive infections in 2019 is because logically it takes a while for a virus to spread around the Earth.
As for grocery store etiquette how long or how virulent the virus remains on the surface is still unknown, it's a relatively new virus, but many people still wipe down their groceries when they bring them home with a disinfectant white. Maybe that helps maybe it doesn't but it doesn't hurt so they do it. anyone would want to do that is beyond me but...., I mean I avoided Walmart before the virus hit. I have been in big box stores like home Depot or Lowe's occasionally although even them I use curbside pickup as much as possible. You pull into a parking lot you text them that you're there and what spot you're in, open your trunk the person comes out with a mask on you hop out of your car with a mask on and tell him to throw it in there you close it and leave. Did a drive-thru pick up at Target the other day where I didn't even have to do that they give you a code on your phone you hold it up to the window and the person comes out and puts it in your trunk. When I have gone in I wear a mask and I stay away from people, if I'm not wearing disposable gloves I sanitize my hands and whatever I bought when I get out to the car.
