The replacement of the shifter is quite simple or let's say plug and play. But before you do that a firmware update of the shifter unit is necessary if you got the 1.0 Version. (2.0 I don't know.) This update must be done with the Rohloff classic 1.0 App, which is only available for Android devices. Details can be found here.

With my system, the app identifies the Rohloff device but stops while creating a connection. The Bosch unit is a Nyon.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just did the update and installed the trigger shifter. I had to try a couple times to connect the app to my Rohloff. On my second attempt I switched off the SIM on my phone so the phone would only connect to my wifi. I linked a good Rohloff instruction...

You do need to try it as the geometry is significantly changed. The Homage Pinion size small is pretty close to the current Homage medium. My wife takes a medium in the current Homage but ordered the small for the Pinion. I suspect either the new universal motor unit dictates a wider angle of the frame or the battery does.

My dealer said we can't get a tester even pre-2026 but he loved the Pinion version he was able to try at Eurobike.

I am having exactly the same problem........it finds the Rohloff and then refuses to authenticate....any help would be appreciated

Anyone knows why no SuperDelite5 with Pinion? Looks like artificial limitation to me... If to pay that much for an ebike it should be top notch from any angle!

Meanwhile I replaced the original gear switch of my Rohloff e-14 by the trigger shifter, which is available since December last year. You can see it on the right side. In the past I had always problems with the original switch, especially with gloves. Now it's nearly perfect. No more wrong gear changes. One reason less to replace the Rohloff model with the new Pinion model of the Homage.

Unfortunately for us in the US, Pinion is still in the distant future. I am about to pick up a new Delite4 GT Rohloff HS with ABS and the power-more (250W extra battery) and updated Rohloff gear shifter. I guess ordering the new "5" would get me the gen 5 Bosch motor, but that's a multi month wait for delivery and not sure that the upcharge yields a material improvement over the gen4 smart system on the Delite4.

I loved the new paddle shifters on the Pinion, I wonder if they are the same as the ones you fitted. I would like to change mine also on my Rohloff Super Delite, is it easy to install the new ones?

Based on the YouTube videos I saw you can swap it out in minutes.

I am about to pick up a new Delite4 GT Rohloff HS with ABS and the power-more (250W extra battery) and updated Rohloff gear shifter.

Are gen 4 bikes discounted in any way since the 5th gen is already available? I don't see the point to pay $10k+ for the previous gen. Also, even with 250W extra, it is just 1000Wh - I have same setup on my Gazelle right now - I was hoping for at least 1250Wh on the new bike. Looks like I need to wait another year or two before I can get something really new.

Yes, I know it is not in US yet - may be in 2026? But why no model even for EU customers? Looks like Pinion limitation with 2 batteries setup - if this is the case, I will wait till they can handle two and 1000+Wh.

I've found a Pinion North America office in CO, which might indicate planting a flag. OTOH, Stromer had a North American office as well.

IMO, what is required before Pinion MGU models make it here is UL certification and a support network for the integrated drive/gearbox and FIT batteries.

Bosch set up a legitimate US presence in California before companies like RM started selling their bikes here. Without Bosch's solid support, RM, Gazelle etc don't exist in the US. Bosch is involved with regulatory policy, etc. While 'how sausage is made' isn't sexy compared to an integrated drive gearbox, it does indicate investment and staying the course.

I've cooled off on Pinion's siren song after reading posts from early adopters in Europe. Of course, early issues will presumably get smoothed out, but until then, my message to Pinion would be that widespread adoption happens only if your North American support is more robust than the one overworked guy in an office, or the distant 'authorized service center' that needs an inordinate amount of time before you can ride your new expensive bike again.

Excellent point! I also appreciate ava1ar point of view. I am abandoning getting the Delite4 and ordering the SuperDelite5 with Bosch Gen5. It makes zero sense for me to pay over $10k for a Gen 4 when a Gen5 is only dollars difference with some significant (IMO) improvements with addressing pedal strike, implementing the GEN4 upgrades as standard and improving the welds on the Gen5.

After three years and about 10.000 km riding with my homage Rohloff into my office I recently noticed that Riese Müller will now offer the homage5 with the pinion mgu. Due to my opinion the pinion mgu is the beginning of an e-bike revolution. In comparison with the Rohloff/Bosch combination it has got a lot of advantages.

• less weight
• direct gear change also under load
• Optimised center of gravity
• Minimised unsprung mass

But there are addtional aspects which make this bike interesting for me:

• First the price didn't change.
• Improved suspension.
• Increased ground clearance although I replaced the original cranks at my current bike by 165 cm sized cranks.
• Improved mudgards: My current bike gets dirty very fast if there is/was bad weather.
• Next generation Supernova lights
• Improved handling of the suspension element
• I think the brakes are also a little bit better than the current Magura
• Increases payload

The only thing I dislike is the increased weight. More than 3.5 kg in comparison with my old homage. I wrote r+m an e-mail with the request to explain this. They told me the reason is mainly the battery. This is obviously nonsense, since the Bosch/Rohloff Configuration weighs more than the Pinion/FIT Configuration even with the more powerful and heavier FIT-battery. I think r+m increased the stability of the frame which became heavier as a consequence.

Last but not least the design: Well, I like it. It' just a matter of taste. And tastes differ as we say in Germany.

It is easy to change the shifter. However you have to use an Android app to update the software on the Rohloff in order to do electronic recalibrations. The new Rohloff trigger shifter is superb (even better than the Pinion shifter on the Delite 5 as you can shift up and drown with your thumb as well as your index finger) I don’t want to change my 2021 Superdelite for the new Delite 5 or Superdelite 5 as my bike still ticks all the boxes for me. However, I am making some upgrades to more closely match some of the upgraded specs of the new models. Namely:
1) Upgrade the rear Magura MT4 2 pot caliper to an MT5 4 pot caliper.
2) Upgrade my front disk from the 180mm Magura MDR C to a 203mm Magura MDR P floating disk.
3) Upgrading my front Fox shocks to120mm travel from 100mm.

I already have a Fox dropper post and Hope 155 cranks. Also I am using the new Schwalbe Albert Radial Tyres with a tubeless setup with the new Schwalbe Clik Valves. I agree with the comments about the heavier weight of the new models. I know that the GVWR of the new bikes is 10kg more, and that I could have 100nm rather than 85nm on the Bosch Superdelite, but the extra unladen weight of 4kgs is unfortunate when it comes to having to lift the bike.

Hi. I would like to ask how you like the Hope 155mm cranks. I installed Hope 165 cranks on my 2019 Homage a while ago, and it was a noticeable improvement over the 175s. I am seriously considering a new Homage5 w/Rohloff which already comes with 165 cranks. I am short, 5'5", so if 155 cranks make a positive difference, without being too short, I will order a pair from Hope (I too like the Hope brand).
