Wanted to post this in case it helps someone else
The wire going into one of my pedego latch dapu 20 inch wheel motors got pinched, it works with throttle but pas is intermittent and we need to replace the wire

Had no luck trying to find a dapu motor opening tool, unfortunately pedego never does this, they just swap out wheels or motors...
was looking at big sockets to chop up and make fit

showed it to a friend who said it looks like a 4 wheel drive nut wrench would work
just picked one up for 25 at the auto parts shop that looks like it fits perfectly, there are a few different sizes
will have more feedback on this after i drop it off with the guy that helps me with repairs like this

going to try and post a couple of pictures of this tool

I used the angled clamp on one side+cone wrench on other side in order to open it.

I bought this bike used cheap with it messing up and Pedego had it for eight months and told me it was the controller, that they finally decided they could not get

I was skeptical of the controller being the problem and I have the exact same bike to use for trouble shooting so we swapped parts etc and figured it out

The previous owner told me that it worked fine until they took the wheel off and put it back on

so I talked to another ebike friend after finally giving up on Pedego getting it fixed and he told me that most likely it was a speed sensor wire broken or something like that

He could fix the wires But wanted me to find a tool to get the motor open if I could

I talked to pedego about renting/buying/borrowing a tool and got nowhere- they don’t ever open motors

did a bunch of Google searches and got nowhere and then one of my mechanic friends told me about this tool

Very encouraging you got such an amazing amount of miles out of that motor
it makes me feel better about fixing this one instead of just replacing the whole wheel, I did not think the replacement wheel was a bad deal but it’s cheaper to have this guy fix it and he can use the money

Plus hate throwing stuff in the landfill that could be fixed

Wanted to update that this tool worked perfectly for that motor, my bike mechanic cut a notch in it so the wire could go through that and not get damaged but these may be a good option for these motors that have to be opened this way

Well smart ass that looks nothing like my motor and that’s not how my Dapu motor comes apart….

This would have been no help for me at all but thanks for linking that hopefully will help someone else with a motor that looks like that, I will post a picture of my motor later

I did do searches all over Google and every else looking for a Dapu motor opening tool and found one reference where somebody had made something but I was just attempting to buy a tool

Luckily a mechanic friend saw the motor and understood what I was trying to do and suggested this other tool that is cheap and works so I posted this to help someone else

Easy! I made no disparaging comments. I was genuinely interested and made the comment without any intent to insult. I was amazed at how detailed the thread was. Nothing more, nothing less.

I did some searches and was quite impressed by that motor. I have a lead on a bike using that drive. But won’t jump until I understand how I would make repairs. I don’t want to encourage my buddy to jump into a a dead end repair.
Mea Culpa.

I’ll try to post a picture of the pedego latch motor in a few minutes, I’m not sure how easy it is to see installed on this other bike and I don’t have the motor that is in pieces with me

But it looks nothing like that other thread so obviously there are a few types of Dapu motors…

Hope this one is half as long lived is that other 17,000 mile motor, that would be crazy impressive

Here is the endless sphere thread on the repair

Maybe this is not dapu…???
I am not sure why I thought it was although that’s the impression I am under, I do not see the name on the motor…

Does anyone else recognize that and know what brand it is? Maybe I need to change the thread title

This has way better pics than I could take

to update this, the tool is perfect for opening the motor

he had to replace the broken wire but he also had to replace the motor hall sensor? was fried probably from being shorted on the frame originally when someone put the wheel back on wrong and caught the wire

it now fixed and running great
