Creo with Di2 bluetooth connection

I'm trying to use the e-tube app with my Creo.
I don't seem to be able to get the bike into bluetooth mode.
Has anybody had success with that?

hi Rob, I also purchased a Creo SL and have the same issue. According to the dealer, the Creo doesn't have the BT nugget in it needed for this to work. Were you able to add it? According to Shimano, you simply add the BT nugget in line into the Di2 cabling. However, i have no idea where the Di2 battery lives in my Creo - let me know if you have made progress on this/know where the battery is etc!

I had the wireless adapter from my previous Roubaix. The adapter I have is the older EW-WU101. The new unit (EW-WU111) is a little smaller and may have more features but not really sure of that.
I installed the EW-WU101 near the rear derailleur. This way, I could remove the cable and just add the 101 without trying to get it in the frame and messing with the Di2 battery.
I would have tried to install it inside the frame if bike stores were running normally but I'm trying to be isolated so I took the easy approach for now.

I updated all the Di2 component software with the desktop version of the etube software and even after all that the mobile bluetooth etube app still does not connect.
Not much of a problem though as everything is configurable using the desktop software.

I have the Garmin 530 display so now I can have a graphic display of my current gear along with it's numerical value on the top row of the display.
I also have the Di2 battery level on another page.
All the Creo info also connected to the 530 automatically. Rider power, speed, cadence and assist mode.
Makes for a very nice system.
Also added the Garmin radar light. This thing is amazing for road use. I thought it would be good but it's even better than expected.

I programmed the extra top buttons on the shifters to control the 530 page display. You can configure short press, long press and double press on both shifters for different functions.
Sure would be nice if this could be tied to the Creo motor assistance. Maybe someday in a software update. We can always hope.

Good luck with your Creo. It certainly is all that I had hoped for and maybe a little more.

hi Rob,
thank you for such a fast and detailed reply! You say you plugged in the BT nugget near the derailleur - does the electric wire disconnect from the derailleur somehow to allow the inline plug in?

I couldn't even get as far as getting the hard wired USB connection to talk to the tube software - does the Di2 need to be in any sort of pairing mode for this to happen? Sorry for the daft Q's but i am really wanting to get this up and running!
Cheers!
Dan.

Yes, the 'wire' does unplug.
It's not easy and you really should use the special tool. The 'wire' is easily damaged if you just pull on it.

Many PC's have driver issues with the etube software.
Maybe remove the current copy and try again. It's a very picky process. One mis step and it won't connect.

Make sure you download the latest etube software. When installing, the USB unit should NOT be connected.
After installing the software, then connect the USB and make sure the driver installs.
When all is good, run the software and then attach bike via handlebar charger port. The software should 'find' the bike after a few minutes. On mine, it took a while but did eventually find it. Nothing needs to be done to the bike during the process:

This video helped me a lot:

If you need anything else, let me know.

Rob - you are the best! OK firstly, it turned out, the software is v sensitive to the USB driver. I ended up installing on a different laptop and it worked just fine. Secondly, for you Creo users, you need to select Mtn Bike and not Road Bike for the software to detect the right bits on your bike. Thirdly, once you've updated settings such as programming the little rubber buttons etc, you have to make sure you gracefully complete the update. There is a complete update button that is hidden (you have to scroll down the menu options to see it) that you have to hit otherwise your Di2 goes into 'play dead' mode.

So firmware and buttons all programmed - now awaiting the BT nugget from Amazon - will keep you posted when i figure out where this can be installed internally rather than leaving outside near the derailleur.

Couldn't have don't this without your help Rob!
Thanks,
Dan.

Yes, sorry I forgot the mountain bike option. I tried road bike as well and that didn't work.
Don't remember the 'complete' button. Guess I got lucky and must have done that automatically.
I programmed my left shifter 'shift' leavers to mirror the right ones. Some set them up like SRAM systems but I have always been a Shimano person so the extra shifters seemed logical to me.
The '111' can just go anywhere in the etube chain. I was going to ask my bike store where the Di2 battery is located but COVID changed that plan.
I think inside the bike would be nice as it would be cleaner. And cleaner is desirable for me. I like everything hidden if possible.
When you first install the '111', it may need to be unpowered after updating with the etube software so locating it outside initially could save some hassles but internally would be my eventual goal.

As you are getting the '111', we will know for sure if the mobile solution works.
One caveat, if the mobile app does recognize the bike after installing the '111', don't do a software update through the mobile app. That can hang things if it tries to update the '111' as part of the operation.

Best of luck.

thanks Rob - i'll keep you posted once i find out where the Di2 battery lives inside the frame! If you find out the same before i do, keep me posted.
Cheers!

hi Rob,
I hope you are well! Sorry to bug but i have another Creo SL Q! My Creo has a shock 2.0 on the front fork with the dial on the top. The dial seems to be a binary on/off rather than gradually stiffening the shock as you twiddle the dial - is this the same for you on your Creo? Seems odd that Specialized would install a 2.0 and not enable gradual adjustment.

I have tried moving the dial but after initial tests, I just leave it at the softest setting.
Hadn't noticed if the effect was gradual or not as I think I just tried both extremes
I'll mess around with it next time I go for a ride.

I checked the dial during a few rides and it DOES seem to have some effect other than on/off but not much.
Going from the stiff setting, the first few clicks release most of the stiffness.
More like a log scale than a linear one.
After the first 3 or 4 clicks, the rest of the dial had little effect but it was a tiny bit looser at the full extreme.
I think it's usefulness is really limited to on/off

thanks Rob - i'll keep you posted once i find out where the Di2 battery lives inside the frame! If you find out the same before i do, keep me posted.
Cheers!

I am trying to connect the d fly EW-WU111 transmitter inside my Creo S-Works. On other bikes I have always connected to the battery in the seat post. I cannot locate the di2 battery on the Creo. I emailed Specialized and they said it was "stored underneath the TCU (on off button) on your top tube". I removed the TCU and looked inside and cannot locate the battery. Not sure what to do when the di2 batter needs to be replaced?? The next best option for connecting the EW-WU111 transmitter seems to be to remove the A Junction from the right bar end and connect to there. I'm not crazy about connecting at the rear derailleur. Anyone have other ideas?

I have the turbo Evo and I believe the battery is located in the left bottom handlebar. I accidentily found it when changing bar wraps.

Thanks so much! Just about to have the D-Fly installed. Pretty clogged handlebars with the A junction on the right and the battery in the left handlebar.
