Converting a Shimano 10 Speed to an 11 Speed

Does anyone know if a Shimano 10 speed cassette can be replaced with an 11 speed? Is the cassette width the same on both? There are no spacers on my bike to remove so the cassette can't be any wider. I realize a conversion would involve replacing the derailleur, chain and chain ring as well. Has anyone done this conversion?

You also need to replace the shifter so that it is calibrated or indexed for the narrower chain and spacing between the cogs.

Not to be a smart aleck- can you juggle the "tooth count " on the gears to get the spacing you desire?I am the worlds worst I just do not use many gears, for me it is pointless.

The main reason I wanted to convert from a 10 to an 11 speed cassette was to be able to use an electronic shifting derailleur. They are available for 11 and 12 speed cassettes but not the older style 10 speeds.

I have since found a product from Archer Components, the DiX Trail, that will work with any cassette up to 15 speeds. It works with any derailleur and costs less than half that of an electronic derailleur system. I'm currently using the product on a trial basis and will report on its merits in another post.

I believe the 10 spd cassette has a spacer, the 11 spd does not. Could be right, could be wrong.
