Como 2.0 Battery Life

Hello. I have a 3 year old Como 2.0 and just recently it seem I'm getting fewer miles on a full charge. My routes are consistent in length, so I'm pretty confident this is true. Can anybody help explain this? Can't I expect to get more than 3 years from a battery that gone about 1200 miles? Thank you. Ned

Ned,
Spend around $10 and get the BLEvo app from your smartphone app store. This app will tell you everything you would like to know about your battery.
Before you do that, install the free Specialized App. It will tell you a lot of things about your battery, although I do not trust in the reported battery capacity. Anyway, I would be interested in the Number of Charges and reported Battery Health to tell you more.

Thank you, Stefan, for your reply. My Como 2.0 does not have Bluetooth and the ability to connect to an app on an iPhone. My wife’s Como 3.0 does. I also am not confident of the specialized app battery report. My local specialize dealer can check, he says, the status and health of the battery but I’m not so sure of the results.
I believe I have 2400 miles on the battery. And maybe 150 battery charges. The battery is three years old.
So what do you think? Am I due for a new battery? $800. Ouch. Thanks very much. Ned.

I think you can just insert your battery into your wife's Como 3.0 and do the check. (The batteries should be compatible!) The battery age doesn't matter Ned if it was charged once in a while (the age of one of my batteries of a similar type is 6 years, and the battery was activated 4 years ago, with some 136 recharges). My battery still is at least 89% healthy.

Your battery seems to have at least 150 more recharges to go, so you could happily ride your Como for more years. If you are ready to spend $800 (plus several dollar for the battery cover!), I would buy it for sustainability, and rotated both batteries between the rides. I hope you're riding in the ECO mode?

'I think you can just insert your battery into your wife's Como 3.0 and do the check. (The batteries should be compatible!) - Sooo smart! I'll give this a try.
"ECO" - Don't think my 2.0 Como has this option. If you mean Assist Level 1 or even 2, yes, I ride at low Assist Levels whenever I can. But I don't have ECO, I think.

ECO is just the name for Assist 1, SPORT is for Assist 2, TURBO is Assist 3. I guess your Como is equipped with the older BLOKS display?

Now, your Como has had a 460 Wh battery. The batteries for that type/series of Specialized e-bikes are compatible 2017-2021. If you buy a new battery, it would be a 604 Wh, which is substantially bigger in charge than your existing one. Only good for you!

My lunabike battery has about 500 charges, 5 5/6 years, and is still holding up well. I only charge to 90% except 4 100% charges a year. I only discharge to about 30%.

Upgrading to the TCD display is a great idea for the older Como/Vado bikes, then you'll have access to the mission control app and can modify what the levels do, ID make "1" a lower level of assist, or more. Your battery is pretty young and should still be fully capable as it was from the factory. I've got a spare 604wh and charger floating around if you wanted to replace the batt.

Thank you, Brendan, for your reply. I appreciate it and your wisdom very much. I will continue to keep as close an eye on my batteries health as best I can without the control center on my bike and the app. They are a little bit more money than I can spend.

Thanks, Indianajo for your reply. I don’t think I have your patience to charge only 90%
And 100% only four times a year. I’m going to take it to a specialized dealer where they have the ability to check on the health of the battery, but I haven’t got a lot of faith in their accuracy.

You're quite welcome!

The dealer special tool does a pretty darn good job at letting you know battery health, assuming your local shop has the tool. That's a great first step!
