Clamping onto a workstand

My question here isn't what the best stand is, etc., as I think I've got that covered now. What I was wondering is if it's still OK to clamp an e-bike onto a workstand using the old standard seatpost method. Mainly, my newest e-bike has a non-removable battery, so when clamping by the seatpost and positioned horizontally, all the weight of the motor and battery is cantilevered to one side of the stand's pivot point. This puts a good torque load on the stand's pivot braking mechanism, but I was mainly concerned with the loading on the seatpost itself. I suppose I could always clamp it by the top tube for a more balanced loading, but that isn't always convenient. Maybe I should ask the mechanics at my LBS.

What do you guys do?

Because of the tilting issue I clamp onto the top tube. Difficult to get clamped because of the weight of the ebike but I can keep the bike level when working on it.

Another top tube guy here, but both bikes are aluminum. I let them rest on the top tube and just screw it down enough to make it snug. I would never hang a carbon frame bike that way though, I’ve seen stories on Reddit that don’t end well!

Who knows, I may be doing it wrong, but no problems at all since I got this nifty Parktool stand. I don’t know how I got along without it.

thats how I did my last bike sliding it to get the angle I want. but if you have a low step then it wont work. so the new bike back to the seat post.

Seat tube. My stand has a pivot and I can tilt it way back if I'm working on the front. If working on the back I let the front tire rest on the floor.
